Melle / Isernhagen / Madrid, February 2011.The Spanish company dirna –with their German offices located in Isernhagen –and the metal working company GLA-WEL in Melle have been working together for several years now. GLA-WEL alreadygot interested in air-conditioning systems years ago, knowing that ventilation and air-conditioning definitely would be important in the future and relevant to their product development.
New Standards
The aim wasto build a dog trailer that would meet complexdemands for a powerful but at the same time gentle and healthy ventilation; and also, to create a natural and animal friendly interior climate.
„The heart circulation system of a dog reacts easily to temperature fluctuations and heat, and the olfactory organs of dogs are very sensitive”, explains Gerhard Welkener, Managing Director of GLA-WEL and responsible for the business unit Tier & Transport (Animals & Transport).He proceeds:
„Rescue or sniffer dogsanddogs in professional dog sports must perform reliably, and much is demanded of them. Immediately after transport they must be able to start work and to do their respective jobs. But a dry dog’snose cannot sniff anything and a dog stressed by bad transport conditions cannot perform.”
Dirna from the start turned out to be the right partner for GLA-WEL due to their technical expertise and their mutual ambition to get a special solution up and running. The company supplied GLA-WEL with all necessary products and materials for practical testing. With the help of many feedback sessions the respective components were optimized and adapted to the animals’ needs.
A Healthy and Natural Cooling Principle
The optimized system that today solely is available in DOG-Sport Trailersmakes use of a simple and natural principle of cooling: evaporation. The only coolant needed is water. Moreover, the air gets filtered thoroughly, and smallest matter, dust- and dirt particles, even pollen, get removed, before the freshened air enters the interior of the trailer.
The huge advantage of the system: A comfortable and cool interior climate is created. But unlike inconventional Air Conditioning, the air not only gets cooled down in several gentle steps but, during this, is moistened additionally. The sensitive olfactory organs of the animals are treated with care and stay moistened, whereas the air at the same time stays comfortably cool and fresh. Temperature fluctuation is comparably moderate; therefore stress to the cardiovascular system is minimized.
The aerodynamic ventilation and cooling system is integrated into the storage roof of the DOG-Sport Trailer. A 12V power battery delivers the electricity. The water tank for the cooling water is neatly stored in a storage box.
