Mochras League Race

Risk Assessment

The event is to be held on ...... at the Shell Island camping and caravan site. The event will be run under WSRA rules to a triangular course.

Arrival of Boats

The entrance to the site is through a manned security checkpoint with a controlled barrier. Each vehicle is to be individually checked in. On passing the barrier follow the signs to the event location site. There is a speed restriction of 10 MPH within the camp site. Be aware of other campsite users and their activities. Children will be present throughout the area. There will be attendant at the race site to show vehicles and trailers where to park in the dedicated parking area.

Unloading and loading boats

Access to the beach where the boats will lie during the racing is via a ramp leading from the road. The ramp is relatively steep and the surface uneven and it will probably be necessary to carry the boats at this point. Sufficient people should be allocated to carry each boat and care should be taken when negotiating the incline due to the surface condition. At the end of the days racing retrieval and loading of the boats should be done as quickly as possible as there is only the one ramp from the beach. The Mochras Rowing Club will provide boat trolleys which can be used both ways if this proves to be more convenient. The laydown area for the boats on the beach is of a coarse rocky surface and care should be taken by all participants when negotiating this area.

Safety Boat Cover

·  A lead boat (with the relevant coloured flags) will lead the race

·  There will be stationary safety boat at Start/Finish Line which will then follow as a follow up vessel and a third will accompany the race from the flanks.

·  The boats will be launched and the race is to take place on seaward side of Mochras harbour, therefore conflict with pleasure craft will be at a minimum but Coxes will be briefed to the possibility of craft in the vicinity when races are being run.

·  All boats will be skippered/crewed by suitably qualified/experienced personnel

·  Safety boat cover as described will substantially reduce the risk/hazard associated with any navigation/water hazards incidents

Adverse Weather

As there is no adverse weather alternative course, should this situation develop, the fixture will be cancelled / deferred.
