Decades Project Due: May 19, 2017
Students are to research various aspects of American culture and politics during a chosen decade (1950's, 1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, or 2000’s). This project should provide the audience with an overall idea of what happened during that decade and what it would be like to live during that time period. Students may work independently or with a partner. They will be provided with some class time to research but will need to work on this outside of school as well. Students may choose the format of the project. Different formats that may be used (but are not limited to): video, display board, actual artifacts, scrapbook, Prezi presentation, PowerPoint presentations, games, demonstrations, or any combination of these formats. This is meant to be a FUN end of year of project, so have fun with it!!
Each project should include information on the following:
Fashion/Clothing/Hairstyles (men and women)
Music
Entertainment/Recreation/Leisure
Values (Culture, what was important, slang, etc.)
Politics
Economy
Inventions, technology
Be Creative in your presentation – it should be an interactive, “lived experience”.

Thorough information provided about the chosen decade is required. Below are a few guiding question to help you get started
Fashion
What type of clothing was popular during that time period?
Popular accessories?
Popular hairstyles?
Make sure to illustrate the differences between Men’s and Women’s fashion.
Music
What type music was popular during that time period?
What musicians were popular?
Try to find specific examples that could be listened to in class
Recreation/Leisure
What venue was used for entertainment? (movies, music, television, sports, etc.)
Popular activities (dances, games)
Any popular movie stars, sports figures?
Food
What was the American diet like?
Popular restaurants and/or meal?
Usually cook at home or dine out?
Values/culture
What was important to the American people during that time period?
How did they view women?
How did they view people of color?
Were there any movements or revolutions during that time period?
Were there any popular sayings or slang?
Politics
Who were the presidents during the decade?
Any major political issues?
Any wars / conflicts?
Major pieces of legislation
Economy
How was the economy at the time?
What was the unemployment rate?
Were there any shortages?
Inventions/Technology
Were there any important/influential inventions that came out of your decade?
How did the inventions impact the American people?
REMINDERS:
Be sure to include maps, graphs, photographs or other visuals to illustrate information about the time.
If working in partners, both should partake in researching and putting the project together – be able to describe what each person was responsible for.
The presentation should be a “lived experience” – try to be interactive.

Decades Project Rubric
5 = Exemplary 4 = Very Good 3 = Satisfactory 2 = Needs Work 1 = Unsatisfactory
Presentation Rubric / ScoreContent:Includes thorough information on all assigned topics of the decade. Information is clear and accurate.
Multi-media: Students use some typeof mediumduring the presentation. Mediums used were effective.
Visual Aids:At least 4slides or visual aids are provided during the presentation. Aids clearly illustrated information.
Overall Presentation:Organized and fluent presentation, with use of visual aids, an attention getter, introduction and conclusion. Students present an engaging presentation that is easy to follow information.
