March, 2014

Dear Prospective Happy Trail 2014 participant,

We would like to invite you to our very special program where you will be able to visit Korea, and to learn and experience Korean culture and heritage. “Happy Trail in Korea”, the Holt annual summer camp, is possible thanks to the continuous supports and generous sponsorship from Mapo-gu District office in Seoul City.

“Happy Trail in Korea” is available for eligible overseas adoptees from both Europe and the United States who would like to explore their motherland for the first time.We are confident that “Happy Trail in Korea 2014” will be a great opportunity to learn about Korean life and culture both inside and outside of the programs along with other participants with diverse backgrounds. You will get the first taste of Korean language (Hangeul), martial art (Taekwon do), cooking and traditional ceremonies and customs. You will also experience Korean family life through an overnight stay with a host family, domestic adoptive family.

Participants will be able to learn about their adoption background to help gain a better understanding of their origins and identity.

We would like to thank the entire staff of Holt post adoption service center for all the preparation and planning for “Happy Trail in Korea 2014” to offer you to fill this journey with precious memories and friendship.

We would sincerely like to ask of you and the overseas adoptees’ community for your continuous interest, participation, and most of all, your hearts for Holt Children’s’ Services and our various other programs to better serve for both domestic and overseas adoptees and adoptive families.

We hope that you will enjoy this very special journey, and may God bless you.

Sincerely,

______

“HAPPY TRAIL IN KOREA 2014”

I. History of Happy Trail in Korea: Holt Motherland Camp

Each year, an increasing number of overseas adoptees seek to learn more about their motherland and heritage. The first Holt Motherland Camp was held in 1992 with the hope to offer an opportunity for overseas Korean adoptees to get to know Korea, its culture, customs, and history.

For the past 22 years, with a rising interest of overseas Korean adoptees from around the world, Holt Motherland Camp, “Happy Trail in Korea,” has accordingly grown to provide better and improved programs for adoptees to experience and see their motherland and Korean culture and life.

Happy Trail in Korea will continue to grow in reaching out to adult overseas adoptees who wish to expand their understanding of Korea, and also to seek for friendship and support with our past and present Happy Trail participants.
