2.The job profile

The Finance Director’s role is to contribute to ILGA-Europe’s overall success by implementing, managing and controlling all financeial-related activities including of thestrategic and operational financial planning, monitoring and reporting.The person will be expected to lead on developing financial plans and strategies to ensure the financial health and sustainability of ILGA-Europe; on developing and implementing financial policies, procedures and controls for sound financial management of ILGA-Europe’s financial resources; and on ensuring compliance of ILGA-Europe’s finances with all statutory and external requirements and regulations. The Finance Director will have a leading role to play in ensuring that ILGA-Europe has effective mechanisms to mitigate financial and non-financial risks. As manager of the Finance and Administration team, the person will also be responsible for ensuring effective oversight and management of all accounting / bookkeeping, payroll and human resources matters, and events organising.

Candidates should be strongly committed to working for human rights and equality for LGBTI people, and have proven competencies and demonstrated experience in:

  • Developing and implementing effective financial monitoring and reporting systems to ensure compliance with legal and funding requirements
  • Managing complex rules and regulations from different funding sources (public and private donors)
  • Developing mid-to-longer term financial plans and strategies to ensure the financial health and sustainability of organisations
  • Developing and implementing financial policies, procedures and controls to ensure sound and effective management of financial resources

Qualifications, experience and other requirements are:

  • Excellent understanding of financial management for international projects
  • A solid understanding of organisational budgeting, monitoring and reporting
  • A solid understanding of accounting, financial oversight and auditing
  • A solid understanding of organisational development
  • Experience and/or solid understanding of grant-making
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Excellent communication skills, including a high standard of written and spoken English
  • A capacity to present financial information to various audiences
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management
  • A solid knowledge of EU and other institutional funding requirements (highly desirable)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organisation
  • Strong problem solving and ability to make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
  • High level of integrity and dependability
  • Demonstrated capacity to adapt to rapidly changing environments, to think creatively and to find innovative ways to respond to emerging organisational needs
  • Capability to take initiative, to plan and work independently, while being a strong and dependable team player, and work well with others at all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines, to balance long-term goals and day-to-day demands
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team, and maintain excellent working relationships, in a high-paced environment
  • Sensitivity to working in a multicultural and diverse environment and commitment to promoting respect for equality and diversity, and ability to implement diversity into your everyday work
  • Willingness to relocate to Brussels and travel occasionally in Europe
  • Experience of working with NGOs and grassroots organisations (highly desirable), preferably in the field of LGBTI human rights and equality
  • Flexibility with work schedule
  • A working knowledge of French (desirable)

Employment information:Salary scale:Euros€64.441- €69.714 in annual increments, starting at the beginning of the scale.The organisation has a generous remuneration package, including contributing to local transportation costs, luncheon vouchers, hospitalisation insurance, a pension scheme for employees and ‘family friendly’ policies. Relocation support from within Europe to Brussels will be given where appropriate.
