2014 DEAN’S SCHOLAR/ ARTIST AWARD
(Guidelines and Application)

Purpose of Awards
To recognize an outstanding graduating senior in the College of the Arts at Montclair State University who has best achieved excellence in both scholarship and artistry. The award is a trophy or plaque and does not carry a monetary stipend.
Eligibility and Guidelines
To be eligible, you must:
a) Be a Montclair State University student, enrolled in a major within the College of the Arts
b) Be a graduating senior or masters students, graduating the winter or spring of this current calendar/ academic year, or summer of the previous academic year, and have a minimum GPA of 3.85
c) Be able to provide documentation of demonstrated achievement in your field of study.

Application Instructions
Submit the following to Life Hall 224 by no later than 4:30 pm of the deadline date.
A. COMPLETED APPLICATION
B. TWO SUPPORT LETTERS FROM FACULTY MEMBERS FAMILIAR WITH YOUR WORK
It is advisable to show faculty your application and “work sample” when requesting letters. If faculty prefer to provide letters “in confidence”, they can instead give them to you in a sealed envelope
C. CREATIVE WORK SAMPLE(S) which demonstrate your artistic accomplishments -- hand-delivered to the College of the Arts’ Office of Student Services (Life Hall 224) Formats generally may include CD’s, DVD’s, manuscripts, term papers, programs, show announcements, etc.
· Art and Design applicants should submit a Portfolio of 10-15 works in a DVD format (original work will not be accepted.)
· Theatre, Dance, Music and Television and Digital Media applicants should submit a DVD of a performance or production. (Note: CDs are also acceptable for music applicants.)
· Communication Studies may submit work in any of the general formats. If you are submitting a manuscript, please email it as well as including it as part of your work sample to: ; subject: CREATIVE WORK SAMPLE FOR SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
· Work submitted in Audio or Video formats must be limited to a 5-minute segment that highlights you as an individual where possible. You should introduce yourself and briefly introduce the piece(s) to be performed. If multiple performers are involved, you may wish to indicate that you are e.g.“the dancer wearing black” (or specify in Clarifying Notes.)
· All materials must be labeled with your name and the scholarship for which you are applying. While materials will be handled with the best of care, the College of the Arts is not liable for their loss or damage. Applicants will be notified after the review to pick up materials intended for return.
