John runs a very successful business in the Vale of Glamorgan where he produces a wide range or organic vegetables. His produce is sold to local farmers markets and local shops and supermarkets. For the organic growers among us John’s presentation along with slides must be one of the highlights of the day.I am sure that we would like to grow all our food without the use of chemicals and herbicides so this presentation should not be missed.

There will be opportunities to ask questions after John’s talk.

11.30-1.00pmMr Mel Saunders Ideas for your Allotment: Beginners-Intermediate

Mel is Chairman of the Tondu Allotments Society and he is also a keen exhibitor at his local show. Mel also judges at shows all round the country he really knows his onions. I am sure we will all really enjoy this presentation I have often heard Mel talk and his knowledge and the way he delivers his talk will be of great interest to us all along with slides and tips on growing fresh vegetables.

Once again there will be an opportunity to ask any questions.

I am sure we have all heard of our next speaker. Ivor is a household name with gardeners all round the country. Ivor writes weekly in the Garden News a national gardening paper on various subjects from Chrysanthemums Roses and Leeks to name just a few. Today Ivor will address us on a subject that we will all find of great value I am sure we would all agree that we use fertilizers and garden lime without really know weather it is needed and more importantly how much to use. Ivor will explain how to use these materials in the correct way.

We will have a opportunity to ask any questions that we may have.

3.30-4.00pm Questions.

4pm Close

It is important to note that the event will be run on a first come first serve basis and therefore early attendance is critical to ensure entry.

Dear Chair

As agreed in the last SAHG meeting a small working group was set up to organise a SAHG seminar. Please find a copy of the itinerary for the Swansea Allotments Holders Seminar to be held at the Guildhall on 25th Feb 2007.

Please can you display the agenda and poster on the notice boards of your allotment site. The day will only be a success if allotment holders are aware of the seminar. I understand that because of the time of the year it may be difficult to contact all members but please do your best to spread the word. If this event proves to be of interest to our gardeners it is hoped to hold another seminar in 2008.

As you will see from the day’s format all attempts have been made to include organic gardens and beginners as well as more established allotment holders. However, there are limited places so it is important to arrive on time if you wish to ensure entry. After much debate we decided to run the event on a first come first serve basis. We are limited to two hundred places, but we ask that you encourage all your allotment holders to attend.

Look forward to seeing you on the25th Feb 2007.

Regards

Gareth Thomas
