AmeriCorps positions 2015-2016

Through the Washington Service Corps, Full Life is recruiting 18AmeriCorps membersfor full-time service positions for the 10.5 month term September 1, 2015– July 15, 2016.Benefits include $1195monthly stipend, health coverage, and$5730education award at completion of service.AmeriCorps positions are available at 4 local non-profit organizations. AmeriCorps members provide services, support, and outreach to engage individuals in programs that promote health, wellness, and independence and social connection.

Positions at Full Life Care (

Health Promotion and Volunteer Engagement Specialists: providedirect service to elderly and developmentally disabled adults in adult day health centers, including planning and leading daily therapeutic group activities and implementing Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP) workshops in the adult day health centers and community. Member will coordinate volunteers at the centers as liaison to our centralized volunteer department. (3 positions available in Kent, Everett, and North Seattle)

ElderFriends Match Coordinator: creates supportive 1:1 companionship matches between elders and volunteers to decrease isolation and increase independence; establishes rapport with participants; provides referral to community resources and other social supports; provides guidance to volunteers and elders primarily through phone and email contact. (Based in downtown Seattle, First Hill)

Solstice Wellness Coordinator and Volunteer Liaison:supports client health and independence for low-income older and disabled adults through drop-in wellness and art studios; develops and facilitateshealth promotion activities in accordance with needs and interests of participants; implementsChronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP) and Tai Chi: Movement for Better Balance.(Based in Central Area of Seattle)

Solstice Wellness Coordinator and Computer Lab Outreach:supports client health and independence for low-income older and disabled adults through in subsidized senior housing buildings and 3 resident-run computer labs; develops and facilitateshealth promotion activities in accordance with needs and interests of participants; implements Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP)and Tai Chi: Movement for Better Balance.(Based in Central Area of Seattle)

Fall Prevention TrainingSpecialist:provides in-home safety assessment and fall prevention training to low-income adults and caregivers. In addition to in-home visits and follow up, the member will conduct outreach presentations on fall prevention and home safety in other Full Life programs and community settings. Member will receive fall prevention training, and other relevant training. (Based in downtown Seattle, First Hill neighborhood)

Resident Engagement Coordinator will plan and lead therapeutic group activities for adults with moderate to advanced dementia, facilitate Music and Memory program, and support and cultivate volunteerism at our small-scale Memory Care Homes in Columbia City and Capitol Hill neighborhoods of Seattle.

Position at SHAG Community Life Foundation ()

Community Resource Specialist will collaborate with SHAG residents, building management and SHAG Community Life Foundation staff to facilitate opportunities for SHAG residents to engage in sustained interaction, programming and volunteerism that builds a more healthy, supportive and vibrant community. This member will support services that foster independence and increase social ties.(1 position based in Central Seattle)

Position at Alzheimer’s Association of Western WA ()

Education and Programs Specialist will implement activities and services in the Alzheimer’s Association Chapter's Education and Early Stage Memory Loss programs. The member will support social engagement programs such as ZooWalks, facilitate Early Stage Memory Loss support groups, and conduct educational presentations. In addition the member will recruit and engage volunteers to assist with these programs. (1 position based in Queen Anne neighborhood)

Positions at Senior Services ()(all positions based in Belltown neighborhood with local travel between sites)

Volunteer Support and Outreach Specialist will serve with Senior Services – Community Dining program, which makes/provides easy access for older adults to home cooked, nutritious lunches at 11 sites throughout King County 5 days of each week. This member will recruit and train new Community Dining volunteers. In addition, this member will interact with clients and volunteers to collect interviews, surveys, stories and testimonials to demonstrate impact of their increased knowledge of healthy eating.(Based in Belltown neighborhood, with travel between sites)

Community Dining Ambassadorwill serve with Senior Services – Community Dining program, which provides easy access for older adults to home cooked, nutritious lunches at 11 sites throughout King County. This member will support site service operations in a holistic way. He/she will develop and setup the outreach systems and site operations for new ethnic dining locations, taking into consideration the cultural makeup of the community. In addition the member will be responsible to connecting the sites in their communities and recruiting volunteers to support the sites.

Two positions serve with Senior Services – Project Enhance, an evidence-based fitness and wellness class developed by experts in the field of physical therapy in conjunction with organizations serving older adults covers strength training, flexibility, balance and aerobic and cardio exercises.The Enhance Fitness Outreach and Equity and Inclusion Specialistwill lead Matter of Balance workshops for participants and volunteer leaders with a lens to Senior Services’ Equity and Inclusion initiative and awareness campaign. The member will serve throughout King County to engage populations identified as a part of Senior Services’ Equity and Inclusion initiative, research population related health disparities associated with marginalized resources and servicesthroughout KingCounty and develop outreach methods to engage individualsidentified by the research. In addition, the member will assist in expandingEquity and Inclusion work through the Enhance program.The Enhance Wellness Program Development and Instructor Support Specialistwill develop and present workshops and training to increase the capacity of program leaders and volunteers to deliver their community programs in Matter of Balance, pain management, 1:1 interventions and other areas of program outreach. This member will help build the online Enhance network to support program volunteer leaders and participants.

Disability Services Outreach Specialist will serve with Senior Services – Information & Assistance program, which uses its highly trained staff and database of 7,000+ resources to help King County seniors, family members, friends, and caregivers find services and support. This member will develop and implement outreach systems to engage and support adults with disabilities with the aim to increase the capacity of the program to assist and help this group of citizens throughout King County.

Seniors Outreach Specialist will serve with Senior Services – West Seattle Senior Center Isolated Seniors Outreach program, which provides connections to older adults in the West Seattle area who need either regular help in their homes or assistance as they learn and engage more with various senior programs and resources in the community. The member will be involved with the present program, which has been growing over the last 2 years, and help to expand the program in the West Seattle community by conducting participant screenings, follow-ups and through the recruitment and matching with community volunteers.

Enrollment and Volunteer Recruitment Specialist will serve with Senior Services – Meals on Wheels program which provides delicious home-delivered meals (adaptable to a variety of special diets) throughout King County, making it easier for homebound seniors to remain independent. The AmeriCorps member will participate in screening new Meals on Wheels participants and deliver meals to homebound clients. The member will develop and implement a new area outreach in Chinese and East African communities to increase enrollment of clients and engage volunteers.The member will engage in the recruitment and training for volunteers at the 23 Meals on Wheels satellite sites.

Mobility Specialist will serve with Senior Services – Transportation Program, which connects professional dispatchers and volunteers to senior adults with disabilities who need transportation to medical and other essential appointments, senior centers, and other locations where they can interact with neighbors and friends. The member will collaborate with 2-3 refugee and immigrant population groups to develop connections and materials to cultivate relationships and conduct outreach to promote increased utilizations of the services provided by the Volunteer Transportation and Hyde Shuttle programs. In addition, the member will expand volunteer engagement to support the increase in services and breakdown barriers to access and utilization.
