Course Description and Goals

The major purpose of this course is to provide an intensive study of the political, economic, social, intellectual, diplomatic, and cultural developments of the United States. The objective of this course is to increase the student's understanding of United States history with the goal of having each student pass the AP Examination. This course is taught at the college level. The major differences between a high school and college history course are the amount of reading and the focus. This course will stress why and how things happen as well as the consequences of actions.

90- 100% of possible points A

00- 62.9% " " " FAIL

The progress report grades and final grade will be based on points earned for: Homework Assignments, DBQ and Free Response Essays Class Discussions, Unit Tests, Quizzes, Essays, Student-led Conferences, and Projects. All assignments must be turned in by the due date to receive full credit. All late work will be penalized twenty-five percent per calendar day, NO EXCEPTIONS. It is the students' responsibility to make up any missed work due to absences. An assignment folder will be available in the classroom for students to pick up missing work.

Due to the volume of material that needs to be learned, the students were assigned a Summer Break Assignment that is due this Friday, August 19, 2016. It is expected that all students will either e-mail or turn in all completed assignments by the due dates listed for each assignment. All class assignments will be posted at:

Academic Responsibility

Students are expected to abide by ethical standards in preparing and presenting material that demonstrates their level of knowledge. Plagiarism or cheating on any assignment will result in: an automatic fail for that assignment, a parent-teacher conference and detention. These standards are founded on the basic concepts of honesty and integrity.
