- Treasurer Report
As of end of Sept.:
- $2,627.72 Gaming Account (funded by BCLC grant; restricted spending) – not including 2014/2015 school year grant (est $7400)
- $6,906.95 Business Account (unrestricted PAC discretion spending)
- Carnival net $4600 raised from 2013-2014
- Record Retention: According to Gaming, we must retain 5 years. Policy applies to bank statements, cancelled cheques, and original receipts for business account retention, Maria Rantanen motioned to pass, Eric seconded.
- Ken suggested to minimum transactions in Gaming account – minimize records.
- Principal’s Report
- Thank-you for your patience during an unusual start. Staff and students settling in nicely.
- Cross-CountryCoaches: Mrs. Jackson and Mr. Soong.
- Practices: Monday and Tuesday mornings at 8:15.
- Thanks to our parent helpers.
- Mini-meets were today and next Wednesday afternoon. District meet, Tuesday 1-3 on Oct. 21st
- Professional Development Day: Oct. 10th: School planning
- Communication: as per PAC advise, the KSM news comes out as an email every 2 weeks. This is to allow for parents who tend to use their phones to organize and read email.
- CASL: New laws regarding fund-raising and emails. We are only allowed to send home communication by email if we have permission. I advise that all fundraising be communicated by paper.
- DT programming: plans are still in progress
- Early Dismissals on Oct. 22 and 23 for Parent-Teacher conferences
- Plans to have gymnastics from Gymsense(gymnastics program) and theatre performances. We have made tentative bookings and would appreciate your financial support. We need approximately $2700 for Gymsense and $800 for the Access Theatre performance in November
- JohnnySandhu: we want to help fund but would like to plan for the year. Suggested strategic planning for funds to support school programs. Principal will come up with “wish list” and present to PAC for funding.
- Arts Umbrella program – 2 weeks, participation based on divisions drawn.
- Old Business
- Seismic project: Johnny and Eric represented PAC and presented to VSB Committee II.
- 10 minute presentation
- Copies of the presentation deck is available.
- Ask: safety of students and community, ensure well-being of community (keeping together)
- No commitment received from Committee II
- Johnny and Eric met with Suzanne Anton, MLA at end of last school year.
- Gowa: PM team met today. Discussion on logistics.
- Erika West voiced appreciation of the teachers for advocating on behalf of the school.
- Next steps: PAC needs to meet to re-strategize. Update will be provided at next PAC.
- New Business/Program Update
- Home Reading Program (Cher)
- Started last Monday
- 110 booklets distributed
- Ms. Kelly (librarian) requests PAC for $500-600 and $100 milestone prizes
- Leftover books from previous years to be sold at this year’s Book Fair to offset costs and fund library/home reading.
- QSP Fundraising
- Pkg delivered to all divisions.
- QSP code changed. Need to communicate and distribute to all students. Code is now 7-digit number.
- Campaign ends Oct. 27
- Incentive (pizza lunches or award top students)?? PAC to discuss.
- Campbell Soup Labels
- 2300 labels from last year. Balance is just under 8600 labels with Campbell. Total can be redeemed for 1 leather vball, 6 rubber footballs or soccer balls.
- Decision made to hold on to labels, continue collecting.
- PAC Funding
- 3 phase approach (Principal/teachers input, PAC inputs, PAC vote)
- Voting on candidate programs to receive PAC funding :
- Child-minding $300 from Business.Motion raised by Eric Seto, seconded by Ken Woo. Passed.
- Thrift balls (up to $100)from Business.Motion raised by Eric Seto, Laura Woo seconded. Passed.
- Division clubs fund ($3400 total; $200 per division, 15 divisions, 4 resource) from Gaming. Motion not raised for this item. Deferredpending further discussion on rules.
- Discussion on gaming funds and the rules around how the money is used. It is specifically for extra-curricular policy.
- Next steps: review policy, incorporate in annual school program funds
- High school scholarships $300 x 2. Deferred.
- Gr. 7 Yearbook and cake – previous years PAC offered $250to support each (yearbook and cake). Deferred – pending Grade 7 teachers’ proposed events, approvals, and costs; then Gr. 7 parents to determine next steps for funding.
- Note: Principal informed PAC that direction was made to Grade 7’s on fundraising practices.
- Home Reading Program $700(from Business fund)Motioned by Eric Seto, seconded by Isabel Nishi. Passed.
- Access Theatre performance $800(from Gaming fund)Motioned by Eric Seto, seconded by Karen Tang. Passed
- Meet the teachers $159.74 (from Business fund)Motioned by Eric Seto and seconded by Cher Leung. Passed.
- Gymsense $2700. Deferredpendingconsultation and list of candidate programs/events for funding.

- Motion to move to first Wednesday of the month. Johnny Sandhu motioned, Debbie seconded. Passed.
