Chairperson’s Report
Staffing:
On behalf of the Committee and the Club, I would like to thank the Management Team who look after the day to day running of the Club, Vanessa Moorhouse, Elaine Nixon and Vicki Walker. Without their drive and dedication to the Club, we wouldn’t be the success that we are today. Personally you have helped me immensely through the transition period of becoming Chair.
This Summer we saw the retirement of Vanessa Moorhouse who has been with the Club for 20 years holding a variety of positions until leaving as one of the Management Team. Vicki Walker has therefore moved into the job share role of Business Manager with Elaine Nixon and they will seek to appoint an Administrator to cover a further 6/8 hours a week of admin support.
Emma Roome, our Early Years and Childcare Manager, is a positive influence within the Club, passionate about providing high quality childcare for all the children who attend the Club and keen to ensure that all age groups enjoy their time with us. Emma takes her responsibilities very seriously and is a real credit to the Club and splits her time between the Club and the office, which she now covers independently one day a week .
Ruth Steadman is ourInfant Team Leader and her experience of working with this age group enables her to build great relationships with the children and their carers.
Wendi Armstrong is ourJunior Team Leader, and enjoys getting the children outside for outdoor activities.
The current staff teams consist of:
Business Team:Elaine Nixon, Vicki Walker.
Early Years and Childcare Manager: Emma Roome
Team Leaders: Ruth Steadman and Wendi Armstrong
Contracted Play Workers: Kia Allert (currently on maternity leave), Hayley Beaumont,
Sarah Bedder, Khatijah Bibi, Pauline Calvert, Keziah Curlis (currently on maternity leave), Gwynne G Shaw,
Current Bank Staff:Sanya Anjam , Lewis Bojar, Matthew Bottomley,Israel Johnson, Mary Mercer, Mark Nicholson,Naheeda Parveen, Antonia Pottinger, Wahida Shabaz.
Staff who have left this year:Alicia Iredale, Vanessa Moorhouse (retired), Misbah Nasar, Saman Naz, Sarah Nixon,Zoe Roberts, Leandra Williams,Josh Woodhouse.
This year staff have renewed or completedFirst Aid Training &Safeguarding. Wendi & Ruth have enrolled on an NVQ Level 3 in Leadership & Management course. Hayley and Kia have completed their NVQ Level 2 in Childcare, and Hayleyhas enrolled on NVQ Level 3 in Childcare.
In April we saw the introduction of a staff pension scheme. This was introduced as part of a government mandate and each employee has been written to and given a consultation on what it would mean to them, currently six staff have enrolled in the scheme.
We rely on the flexibility of all levels of staff within the team to cover Lindley Out of School Club, Open evenings, School and Club events and the Playscheme and their commitment to this is greatly appreciated. Their presence at events helps raise the profile of the Club and they are role models for the children who attend. Thanks to all of our staff for your contribution to the continued success of the Club and the quality of the care you provide to all the children who attend.
Events since the last AGM
As a Parent Committee we previously held our meetings at Lindley Evangelical Church opposite the hospital. Due to the sale of the building this year, we had to find alternative space for the committee meetings and we now rent a room at St Stephens Church when needed. The Evangelical Church has been a significant part of club history as not only did we have our meetings and operate many training courses there but also following the fire at Birchencliffe in 2007 we used the venue to host the Junior Club for a short while.
This year saw the return of the world famous talent show which was won by Nancy. It is lovely to see so many of our Club families and children support us at these in house events.
We are keen to show how important it is to us that we are part of the local community and as always Emma and her team have worked tirelessly over the past year to promote the club at many of Lindley’s local events, the Street Party, the Carnival, the Junior School picnic offering amongst other things our face painting and stick on tattoo services. The presence at these events has ensured that wider local families are aware of the services that we offer, and through them we have been able to generate additional interest in the Playscheme, and seen an increase in non-club families coming to us in the holiday periods.
The Infant Club will make the transitionaway from using the paper based Early Years learning journals to an online facility called Tapestry, from September 2017. This will give parents and keyworkers instant access to their child’s progress and we are hoping that this method will encourage greater interaction from our parents.
Home visits took place early September 2017. After an initial quiet uptake the team was able to see most families just before the Infant school reopened, this helped to have happy smiles from all of our new Reception starters.
The staff team shared in a Breakfast together before enjoying a two hour dance session at a local dance studioas part of a team building day.
.
It has now been a year since Shape Lindley After School and Homework Club opened their doors. Whilst what they offer is slightly different to that of our own Club, we have seen some movement from families to use their service instead of ours. With this in mind we have reviewed the services we offer and in the new school year will offer a pickup service from after-school activities at the Infant and Junior Schools.
The Club has invested in a lockable outdoor storage shed for all outdoor resources at the Junior Club and set up a quiet area for homework to be made available as an optional activity for children.
Hoiday Playscheme:
The Playscheme is run as a separate entity to the Breakfast and After School Clubs and this year we have seen a loss at Christmas (-£214) when we attended the Pantomine for the first time and a small loss at Spring Bank with profits on the remaining Playschemes, however the Summer Playscheme did make a profit of £1611.Overall we did see a slight dip in popularity with the number of children attending falling from last year.
The team organised a range of activities to cater for all age groups throughout the year. Trips have included Bowling, McDonalds & Roller blading, Rex Cinema, Shibden Hall, Cannon Hall, Greenhead Park, Huddersfield Leisure Centre climbing wall, Ponderosa, Snowtubing and Adrenaline Trampolining. They have also been fortunate to have some great workshops with the children including Birds of Prey, First Aid, Lego, Rugby, Boxercise, Taekwondoand the always popular glitter tattoos.
We continually review the attendance and the profit and loss of each Playscheme this allows the Club to identify which trips are more popular than others; this helps with the planning of future Playscheme’s.
The staff team spend a lot of time and effort planning for the Playscheme so thank you to all those involvedand for arranging a variety of activities to suit all age groups.
Out of School Club attendance:
Both Clubs operate at near full capacity on most days and the Business Team have worked hard to manage the numbers at each Club to ensure that existing families do not have to re-apply for their places year on year. The Business Team manages the waiting list effectively, and offers casual places where possible.
Community Contribution:
Whilst we are not a profit making organisation it is important that any profit we may make is used to benefit the Club whilst also considering how we could improve the local community resources that we make use of.
The Committee:
The Committee currently consists of trustees Kenny Simpson (Chair), Ginny Augustine (Vice Chair), Emma Fairbank (Treasurer), Debra Mistry (Secretary), supported by Caroline Henderson, Katrina Cliffe, Debra Mistry, Vikki Wilford, Helen Harris, Rob Watson, and Sarah Smith as general committee members.
This year we say good bye to four long standing members of the committee, Caroline Henderson, Emma Fairbank, Katrina Cliffe and Vikki Wilford. I would like to thank them for the commitment they have provided to the Club with their many years of service.
The Club relies on the participation, ideas and time of the committee so thank you to everyone who has taken part this year to assist with the running of the Club. Your time is much appreciated.
It's very important for parents to take an active role in the Clubs future by attending committee meetings - all parents/carers are welcome and if we don't have a committee we don't have a Club. If any committee member is aware of another parent who is considering coming along, please encourage them to do so!
