Objectives:
- The students will read chapter 1 of “The Search for Delicious” and create an illustration for it.
Lesson Sequence:
- Read chapter 1 of “The Search for Delicious”.
- Provide instructions for the job of the illustrator:
- As the Illustrator your job is to draw a picture or graphic organizer related to the selection you have read. Please us the back of this sheet for your drawing. Show your drawing without comment to the others in your group. Let each person share his or her thoughts about your picture. When everyone is done share your reasons for why you drew that illustration.
- Have entire class draw and share an illustration.

Lesson Sequence:
- Read chapter 2 of “The Search for Delicious”.
- Provide instructions for the job of Summarizer:
- As the Summarizer your job is to write a summary about the reading you have done. Make sure you include key events, and only the important details. You may include your thoughts and opinions as long as you have supporting information.
- Have entire class complete “Summarizer” WS.

- The students will read chapter 3 of “The Search for Delicious” and play the role of Discussion Director.
Lesson Sequence:
- Read chapter 3 of “The Search for Delicious”.
- Provide instructions for the job of the Discussion Director:
- Your job is to write some questions that your group can discuss. Remember to not ask simple fact questions, but questions that get the group to share their thoughts.
- Have entire class create questions and discuss a few of them aloud.

- As the Connector, your job is to find connections between the book you are reading and the world. You may also see if you can see any connections to other books.
- Have entire class complete Connector WS and discuss aloud.

Lesson Sequence:
- Read chapter 5 of “The Search for Delicious”.
- Provide instructions for the job of Word Wizard:
- As the Word Wizard, your job is to look for words that may be new, interesting or important to the story. Using the context clues, try your best to guess at what the word means. Look up the word in a dictionary, read the definition, and write it in your own words. Think of how you want to discuss and share the words you found. Lead your group in a discussion of the words and their meanings.
- Have entire class be the Word Wizard and complete WS.
