DECLARATION
- Leave: Research Associates are not officially 'employed' by the University, and do not have any statutory leave rights.It is recommended that the RA should be afforded the annual leave equivalent to a starting-level contract academic - 30 working days per year.
- Maternity leaveof 3 months is applicable provided that the period of leave is added onto the tenure and is negotiated with the supervisor.
- Paternity leaveto be negotiated with the supervisor provided that the period of leave is added onto the tenure.
- Code of Conduct: In the case of a grievance, negotiations will take place between the RAand Supervisor and Director Research Management and Development.
- Grieviances: Grievances may be brought to the attention of the Director Research Management and Development, who will arrange for mediation where necessary.
- Intellectual Property: IP resides with the Durban University of Technology.
- Collaborations: Within a group there a no rules prohibiting a RA from collaborations as long as the group leader is informed.
- Contract Termination: Should either the supervisor or RA want to terminate the contract a 30 day request notice is applicable.
- Stipend: Research Associates receive a stipend as determined by DUT. This will be paid in monthly installments on an annual basis.
- Publications: A minimum of 2 units of publications will be required from RAs per annum.For any subsequent publications after the minimum number required, the RA can apply for the incentive funding.
- Accommodation: Research Associates are free to apply for accommodation at DUT or externally.
- Extension of tenure: Since the tenure for the RA is two years, this will entitle funding for that period only. A strong recommendation has to be made by the supervisor to the Research division in cases where an extension beyond the two years is required. This recommendation has to indicatethe progress of the RA and has to be well motivated for by the supervisor.
- Certificate:Research Associates will be provided with a certificate at the end of their tenure.
- International Education and Partnerships (IEP):The IEP directorate will assist foreign RAs with logistical requirements which include preferred external accommodation and immigration requirements.
