Job Title:Communications Assistant

Reporting to:Internal Communications & Engagement Manager and External Communications Manager

Department:Corporate Affairs

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To be responsible for the administration of the charity’s Internaland External CommunicationsTeams. To provide day to day admin support as well as getting involved in the sourcing and writing of news stories from across the charity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with development and distribution of publications (LCD Life, Top of the Ops, Community Engagement Newsletter and the patron’s newsletter).
  • Responsible for news/story gathering and seeking out case studies as directed.
  • Support Internal Communications Officer with the maintenance and upkeep of the intranet.
  • Assist External Comms Officers with the daily news summary of important stories.
  • Maintain our files of newspaper, online and broadcast files
  • Provide administrative support to run successful events.
  • Help senior internal officer and manager to co-ordinate key publications like the annual report.
  • Support internal and external communication teams with campaigns, programmes and events.
  • Work alongside External Comms officers to get press releases out and also to compile press lists and keep a list updated of journalists.
  • Maintain and develop distribution lists.
  • Coordinate internal and external mail outs.
  • Manage the internal communications email account and other incoming enquires.
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties which may be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential requirements

  • Prior experience of administrative work.
  • Prior experience of working in a press office andinternal communications function.
  • Demonstrable experience of writing for a variety of audiences.
  • To have an understanding of disability issues and the use of alternative communication formats.
  • To have an affinity with the ethos and values of Leonard Cheshire Disability.

Willing to undertake UK travel as required, possibly with some overnight stays.

Desirable requirements

  • Experience of using indesign.
  • Knowledge of intranet content management systems.
  • Knowledge of media database systems, such as Gorkanna, for press list creation, press monitoring and evaluation reporting.

  • Demonstrable multi-tasking ability.
  • Skilled in using standard Microsoft Office packages.
  • Possess good level of written English.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Contribute creatively to the team and develop ideas for both the external and internal communication teams.
  • Good use of initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Flexible approach to work in order to meet changing demands.
