Job purpose
The Wessex Inspiration Network (WIN) is one of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) Consortia being funded by the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE). Its aim is to increase progression to higher education in areas where fewer than average numbers of qualified young people continue on to further study.
The postholder will focus on co-ordination and development of activities and additional support for a cluster of partner schools to encourage progression to higher education for students from the identified target wards.
The postholder will also be expected to support the NCOP Manager, the Steering Group and wider project team in the efficient management of the project particularly in supporting the delivery of a range of activities such as residentials, workshops and talks.

From time to time you may be asked to assist in the facilitation of CPD activities. This will form part of your substantive role and you will not receive additional payment for these activities.

The post holder will be expected to:
-  attend meetings and events outside normal working hours
-  undertake an enhanced level Disclosure and Barring check
-  be prepared to travel to and work outside the university
-  hold a current UK driving licence
Main duties and responsibilities
1 / Plan, organise and deliver outreach programmes and interventions for the WIN in accordance with the aims and objectives of the partnership.
2 / Co-ordinate and develop activities and additional support for a cluster of partner schools to encourage progression to higher education for students from the identified target wards.
3 / Work collaboratively with a fellow Project Officer, based at the Bath Spa University to, develop activities to support the college & school project officers.
4 / Proactively work in conjunction with college & school project officers to plan and deliver activities for NCOP students across the academic year.
5 / Supervise and provide support for students working on WIN programmes and activities
6 / Build relationships with identified partner schools and external bodies such as youth and community centres in target wards to enable activities to be held in the venues and ensure activity is delivered to young people and their key influencers domiciled in target wards
7 / Develop resources and materials to support the activity and event programme across the partnership
8 / Research and engage with external providers of activities and resources that would meet with the activity plans for NCOP students in schools and colleges.
9 / Review all activities to ensure that they met the original requirement and report back to the school/college/WIN team on the effectiveness of the events in the school cluster.
10 / Under the guidance of the WIN Evaluation Officer, facilitate the monitoring and evaluation of the WIN outreach programme.
Undertake other duties of a similar nature as consistent with the grade of the post.

Experience/Knowledge

Recent experience in the coordination and delivery of events for young people in an educational setting

Experience and understanding of collaborative working across a number of agencies

Experience of project delivery

Professional qualification related to working with young people eg Careers /youth work/teaching qualification

Direct experience of the organisation and delivery of widening participation activities in school and/or higher education setting /

Skills

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage appropriately with a wide range of stakeholders including academic staff in FE colleges and schools; the postholder must be able to communicate detailed information to potential HE students of all ages and their parents/carers.

Excellent organisation skills, including the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, deliver targets, maintain accurate records of event evaluation and costs and produce monitoring reports

Able to work as a team player and independently

Knowledge of current issues within higher education, especially those concerned with widening access and participation
Able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the aims of widening participation and a good understanding of the barriers and difficulties faced by groups who are under-represented in higher education
