elcome to Computer I. This course is designed for students to make informed decisions by understanding current and emerging technologies, including technology systems, appropriate digital tools, and personal learning networks. As competent researchers and responsible digital citizens, students use creative and computational thinking to solve problems while developing career and college readiness skills.

Teacher Expectations:

  • Follow all school policies listed in the Student Handbook.
  • Respect yourself (be on time, prepared, accept responsibility, set high goals).
  • Respect others (be courteous, helpful, accept differences).
  • Give 100% (complete assignments to the best of your ability).

Behavior Consequences:

The following consequences may vary based on the severity of the infraction. Typical consequences include:

  1. Verbal corrections/conference with student
  2. Conference with parent/guardian (by phone, email or in-person)/Detention
  3. Office referral

Gaming Consequences:

There will be no games played during class. If you are playing games the following consequences will apply and your parent will be notified by phone or email:

  1. Your computer will be turned off immediately and you will have a seat at your regular desk.
  2. You will be given bookwork to complete for a grade in lieu of that week’s participation grade for the rest of the class period.
  3. You will still be required to complete that day’s work in a tutorial session that YOUmust set up with me.
  4. If this becomes a habitual occurrence you may be prohibited from computer usage for an extended period of time.

Technology:

  • Phones shall be docked upon entering the classroom.

There will be times where cellphones will be used during class instruction. Inappropriate cell phone usage will result in the device being held for the duration of the instructional day. Students will be able to retrieve their phones from me at that time. If parents need to contact students, the front office phone number is 281-324-2598.

  • No music (includes iHeartRadio, Itemvn, Pandora).
  • At no point is photographing or videotaping of anyone allowed while in the classroom.

Grading Policy:

  • Exams & Projects50%
  • Daily Work50%

Cheating:

  • Will not be tolerated
  • Zero on assignment with absolutely no retakes
  • Write up to the office
  • Parent/Coach notified

Make-up Work/Tutorials:

If you are absent,it is your responsibility to get your make-up work from the teacher. This information is always accessible on your Edmodo student account. One day given per day that you are absent. Since this is a computer-based class, you have the flexibility to submit assignments virtually anywhere. I will be available every Mondayafternoon until 3:30. I am flexible in working with the student if prior arrangements have been made with me. Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday morning tutorials are available from 7:00-7:25.

Late Work:

School policy states that work that is late 1 day will lose 15 points, 2 days will lose 30 points, and 3 days 50 points. Leniency will be given due to the nature of this class.However, you must make a tutorial appointment with me the day you return. If you miss the tutorial session the school policy will be set into effect.

1 Day: 85 maximum

2 Days: 70 maximum

3 Days: 50 maximum

4 Days: 0

Re-Testing

For students who do not make 70 or higher on a major test, the teacher will re-teach either within the regular classroom setting or by individual arrangement. When a major test is administered, an alternate form of the test will be used. The student will receive the higher of the two grades, not to exceed a grade of 70. Only one testing will be done.
