DELETE BEFORE SENDING OUT:

Note for groups using this pack as a template for their own:

This is only a start, something to get you thinking about the types of information you might want to include in a welcome pack. Please add to it, change it and personalise it as much as you like. You want to give a prospective or new member all the information they might want to know about the group – without going overboard and giving them too much information all in one go. This pack has been written in mind for groups who meet up regularly, so for groups who don’t physically meet – or do so on a less regular basis; you will have to change some of the suggested writing.

If you have any questions about this pack or how to use it please email .

An introduction to our group

Diabetes UK Groups exist to give advice, information and support to people living with diabetes and their friends and family- indeed we’re open to anyone who’s interested in diabetes. Our main aims are DELETE/ADD NEW THINGS AS APPROPRIATE:

  1. Arrange tea/coffee social events, where members can swap ideas on living with diabetes.
  2. Raise awareness of diabetes in the local community.
  3. Organise local meetings where speakers with expert knowledge provide relevant information.
  4. Raise funds to support research & development projects initiated/supported by Diabetes UK.

We provide care and support in INSERT VENUE NAME at our regular group meetings, by providing opportunities for people to share their experiences and organising educational talks. We have a varied programme throughout the year which can involve fundraising events such as sponsored walks through to working with GP surgeries in the area to improve services for everyone with diabetes. Have a look on page INSERT PAGE NUMBER to see what we have planned for the next few months. There is no cost to attend meetings, and no membership fee - we fundraise to cover running costs.

Most meetings involve some sort of speaker or planned activity (such as a walk), and an opportunity to chat to other people affected by diabetes over refreshments. Please do let us know if you have any special needs or dietary requirements that we can cater for. If you have any ideas for what you’d like to see at meetings then let us know.

Meet the Group

The group is run by a committee of volunteers, who meet up to plan and organise meetings. Most of us have some experience of ourselves living with diabetes – either as people with diabetes ourselves, family and friends of others who do, or others who want to help in their local community. Here is a bit more information about us, don’t hesitate to come up and approach any of us if you see us at a meeting – say hello!
