What is Title I?

Campbell Elementary School is identified as a Title I school as part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support state and local school reform efforts tied to state academic standards and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parent involvement. All Title I schools must develop a written parental involvement policy jointly with all parents.

What is Parental Involvement?

Campbell Elementary School faculty and staff promote the notion that parental involvement is the participation of parents in every aspect of their child’s education and development. We recognize that parent involvement comes in various forms, including parents’ shared responsibility in decisions about their children’s education, health, and well-being. We institute an open door policy to ensure that parents feel comfortable being part of our learning environment. We encourage parents to be actively involved in our school and promote life-long learning and goals through varied learning experiences throughout the school year.

What is the Title I Involvement Policy?

The policy describes how Campbell Elementary School provides opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. Campbell Elementary School values the contributions and involvement of parents to establish an equal partnership for the common goal of improving student achievement. This plan establishes the various ways Campbell Elementary School support parent engagement and how parents can help plan and participate in activities and events to promote student learning at school and at home.

How is the Parent Involvement Policy revised?

Campbell Elementary school invites parents to attend our annual planning meeting each spring to review and revise the parental involvement policy, the school wide plan, budget, and our school-parent compact. All parent comments received during the year will be used to revise the plan for the next school year. An annual online survey is also distributed to ask parents for their suggestions on the plan and use of funds for parental involvement. Parents are also welcome to give feedback during several parent meetings and activities during the school year including our Annual Title I Meeting.

Where is the Title I Parent Policy available?

At the beginning of the year the Title I Parent Policy is distributed to all students and parents during Open House. As new student arrive, the policy is included in their enrollment packet. The policy is also posted on the school website and it can be retrieved in the Parent Resource Center.

How will parents be notified of events?

Campbell Elementary ensures that all information related to school and parent programs, meetings, summative and formative assessment results, and academic progress of students is sent to parents in a format they can understand. Written notification is also provided in English and Spanish. Below you will find some of our methods of communication.

  • CES Calling Post: As in previous years, we are fortunate to have an automated phone LEA will call each household with general school announcements.
  • CES Web Page: The CES web page serves as another tool to inform parents of upcoming events and links to educational resources for students and parents.
  • Agenda Books: Each student in grades three – five receives an agenda book to help parents know what assignments are due. Students in grades Pre K – two receive a daily communicator. The agenda book and daily communicator provide teachers and parents with a means of daily communication about academic and behavior issues.
  • Weekly Newsletter: This communication (available via print and the internet) serves as a means of communicating about curriculum tips and ideas, CES news, and upcoming events.
  • Home Access Center: Parents can view their child’s grades as teachers input them weekly.
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences: Parents can schedule conferences as needed throughout the year as well as attend conferences during Teacher Work Days.

What is the School-Parent Compact?

As part of the Title I Parent Policy, Campbell Elementary and our families develop a school-parent compact, which is an agreement that parents, teachers, and students develop that explains how parents and teachers work together to make sure all our students meet or exceed grade-level standards.

How will Campbell Elementary School promote and support parents?

Campbell Elementary takes the following measures to promote and support parents as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals.

  • Parents receive a copy of the Fulton County Parent Involvement Policy under Title I and Fulton County Curriculum in conjunction with the Campbell ES Parent Compact and Parent/Student handbook.
  • Title IOrientation: At this annual meeting, parents receive an orientation to the Title I School Wide Program and the parents are informed of their school’s participation under Title I.
  • Open House: During this meeting, parents receive information about curriculum, transportation information, lunch, and treat prices. They receive a copy of the Campbell Parent Compact along with parent/student responsibilities.
  • Parent Resource Center: Parent Resource Center is one of the key program areas within Communities in Schools of Georgia. PRCs help parents become actively involved in their children’s education through numerous early childhood programs. Our Parent Resource Center is stocked with materials and information that will enhance parents’ knowledge about their students’ education. Moreover, the PRC is equipped with information about Test Taking Tips, student disabilities, and continuing education information.
  • Parenting Workshops: Campbell Elementary School hosts a series of workshops designed to assist parents in helping their children succeed in school. The workshops range in topic. Participants receive free registration, workshop materials, childcare services, and light refreshments.
  • A subscription to the brochure series Parent Magazine is secured in English and Spanish. Brochures are available free of charge in the Guidance Office.
  • Campbell Elementary School employs two full-time liaisons, one of which is bi-lingual. The Bi-Lingual Parent Liaison will assist with communication efforts with our growing Hispanic population as well as other parents who desire assistance.
  • Provide necessary materials and handouts for parents at conferences, meetings, and activities to help parents work with their child to improve their child’s achievement.
  • Use our school business partners and Parent Liaisons to improve awareness of the activities and events listed in the school parental involvement policy.
  • Provide Hispanic parents with resources for English literacy and computer classes to help further their various educational levels.
  • Collect feedback from parents at events to gather and respond to request for additional support for parental involvement activities.
