SE4A University

“Training – Innovation - Service”

The SE4A University is the first of its kind collaboration between the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) and the Center for Aging & Disability Education & Research (CADER) at Boston University. SE4A Universitywas createdtoprovide comprehensive, validated, skill-based online training programs to ensure that workers have the knowledge and skills needed to meet the long-term living services and support needs of consumers and families in an increasingly diverse and rapidly changing world. The programsare designed to enhance the skills of those already providing these services, as well as for those who will need new skills to meet the increased demands from the changing healthcare landscape.

The SE4A University is based on two simple ideas: 1) that learning must be skill-based and tied to behaviors and tasks that workers need to succeed on the job, and 2) learning must be consistent and cost-effective, and can be accessed anywhere by participants so the training can be most effective.

SE4A University Training Programs are for those workers in the eight member states’ (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee) AAAs and their service provider networks that want the skill requirements needed to provide a full range of community-based long-term living services and supports include the following:

Program Overview

To help agencies ensure that their workers have these skills, the SE4A University offers a cost-effective, high quality, and structured online training programsdeveloped by the Center for Aging and Disability Education and Research at Boston University. The training provides comprehensive training programs in which workers obtain proficiency in core competency areas leading to the attainment of increasingly advanced practice skills. Collectively, the competency areas cover the range of knowledge and skills essential for effective practice and successful job performance.

Customized training programs through SE4A University are available upon request for agencies, state associations, or state agencies within the member states, for more information about these programs and services please contact CADER’s Director of Business Development, Frank Fay, to discuss your agency or state’s needs. He will work with you and your management staff to develop a training curriculum that is customized to your state or agency’s training needs, which can be determined by doing a comprehensive needs assessment with your entire staff.

Or you can choose fromany of the below pre-designed programs that were created based on the survey results we did with SE4A members – staff as well as the ones with directors. The SE4A Board and CADER strongly recommend that you have the majority of your staff initially participate in one of the two core training programs (Option 1or Option 2) because it allows states and agencies to build a strong foundation of core skills and competencies, andalso provides you the opportunity to benchmark and measure your network as you move forward. CEUs are available for Social Workers, Guardians, and in some states Nurses.

CADER utilizes a skills and competency-based approach when developing each course, with the content of each course designed to address the knowledge, skills, and values essential for competent practice in the course topic area. The purpose of such an approach is to enhance the application of training to professional practice in the field.

Learning Enrichment Features:

CADER will provide organizations with 15 or more participants with a training implementation guide that provides a step by step process for implementing CADER’s training programs successfully. This guide is a comprehensive resource that consolidates all the information needed for planning, implementing, and evaluating the training program, which will help the organization(s) navigate through the process and lead them to successful outcomes.

SupervisorGuides:

HR, supervisors, managers, and other trainers are key players in helping learners transfer knowledge and skills from online courses into practice. So CADERprovides organizations with 15 or more participants with a set of course Supervisors Guides(4 total guides) designed for supervisors, managers, or other trainers who want to conduct a group training session based on one of CADER’s online courses.
