Course Overview:
The purpose of this course is to cover the equivalent of a third-year college course in Advanced Spanish Composition and Conversation (3000 level course). As this course is conducted completely in Spanish, enrolling students are expected to have practiced both formal and informal active use and application of the target language (Spanish) consistently throughout their previous years of study. Students in this course will continue to develop their proficiency in the target language (Spanish) through extensive work that interweaves the basic skills needed for:
- Active communication: aural comprehension through authentic and level appropriate audio and video media;
- Extensive interpersonal and presentational speaking: conversation starters and role play, debates, and formal presentations;
- Comprehension and Persuasion: using multiple sources of written materials such as conversations, newspapers, magazines, letters, Internet articles and short stories;
- Rigorous review and application of: vocabulary and grammar structures through frequent informal and formal composition assignments.
- Discussion and comparison of: Hispanic cultures through the study of history, art, literature, music, and current events.
Students will take part in individual as well as partner and group work in the classroom and the Stevens Language Lab to further develop oral proficiency. A multitude of resources are available and in use throughout the year in order to facilitate the learning process.
Honor Code: In addition to the Lake Mary High School Honor Code, the following rules will apply to Spanish class:
1.No dictionaries during quizzes or exams unless specified by the teacher.
2.No use of Internet translation sites is permitted when preparing short essays, conversations or compositions. Do your own work!

Radio programs
– Spanish national radio on-line with a variety of channels from which to choose.
Magazines, newspapers – Pick up a copy of “La Prensa”, Go on-line and connect to “El Sentinel” – this is the Spanish version of the Orlando Sentinel.
DVDS – Set the DVD language to Spanish or run the Spanish subtitles
Books – Meet a friend at Barnes and Nobles or Borders, grab a cappuccino and browse through the books available (you could even check out the children’s section)
And the best advice; talk to Spanish speaking people. DO NOT BE AFRAID!
