1.  Martin Perfecto de Cos Mexican General and Santa Anna’s brother-in-law that commanded

forces in Coahuila y Tejas. Defeated at Battle of San Antonio de Bexar

2. Domingo de Ugartechea Mexican Colonel that commanded San Antonio and ordered the people of Gonzales to surrender their small brass cannon.

3. John H. Moore Texas Colonel that commanded Texas troops at the Battle of Gonzales.

4. Stephen F. Austin Led 300 Texans known as the “Army of the People” onto San Antonio after the Battle of Gonzales. Left San Antonio in November 1835 to plead for aid from the U.S. during the Texas Revolution

5. Erastus “Deaf” Smith Texas scout that reported the Mexican cavalry and mule train headed towards San Antonio leading to “Grass Fight”. Later, under orders from Sam Houston, blew up the bridge at Vince’s Bayou with Henry Karnes to cut off escape routes at San Jacinto

6. Ben Milam Texas empresario that helped capture Goliad and led a column of troops to victory at San Antonio after giving his famous plea. Killed during the battle

7. Frank W. Johnson Texas Colonel and close friend of SFA that supported independence and led the other column of Texas troops to victory at San Antonio. Took full command and forced General Cos to surrender. Later defeated at San Patricio

8. Juan N. Seguin Tejano Captain and scout that led Tejanos at the Battle of San Antonio de Bexar and the Battle of San Jacinto

9. Hendrick Arnold A free African American guided Milam’s troops into battle at San Antonio and later served at the Battle of San Jacinto

10. Greenbury Logan A free African American was wounded at San Antonio when he suffered a wound to his right arm that crippled him for life

11. George C. Childress Delegate from Tennessee at the Convention of 1836 considered the primary author of the Texas Declaration of Independence

12. David G. Burnet Early pioneer, empresario, and delegate at the Convention of 1836 selected as ad interim president of Texas. Later spared the life of Santa Anna

13. Sam Houston Texas General given command over regular forces by the provisional government. But elected commander in chief of the entire Texas Army under the ad interim government. Defeated Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto

14. Lorenzo de Zavala Mexican who helped write the Mexican Constitution of 1824. Arrested by General Cos for criticizing Santa Anna. Selected as ad interim vice-president of Texas and later opened his home as a hospital to wounded Texans and Mexicans during San Jacinto battle

15. Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna Mexican President and General that defeated Texans at the Alamo. Later defeated at Battle of San Jacinto and forced to surrender all claims to Texas

16. David Crockett U.S. Congressman from Tennessee that fought at the Alamo as a private. Was a frontier legend known for his coonskin cap and legendary tales. Skilled sharpshooter, hunter, and storyteller

17. Jose Urrea Mexican General who captured forts at Refugio and San Patricio. Captured Texans at Coleto Creek and executed them at Goliad

18. James Bowie Texas Colonel and commander of the volunteer army forces at the Alamo. Known for his legendary, overly-large knife. Got ill during the siege of the Alamo

19. William B. Travis Texas Lieutenant Colonel and commander of the regular army forces at the Alamo. Wrote “the most famous letter in Texas History”and was one of the first officers killed there
