JOB DESCRIPTION

Team:Accommodation Support

Accountable to: Services Manager

HPWA Board of Trustees

Hours of Work:Varied-7 day rota-to be arranged

Salary:£7.50 per hour (£25.00 sleeping rate)to be reviewed

Overall Purpose:

To work as part of a team of staff to provide a confidential and safe accommodation and support service to young women aged 16 – 24 years (with or without children) who are or have been affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence..

The post holder will provide night concierge for the service to keep our accommodation base safe and secure and will liaise with daytime staff, ensuring that clear information is provided at handover periods.

The post holder will be an initial point of contact for service users who may require support in an emergency or crisis situation. Back up services will be available in this event. Staff will ensure that a professional standard of service is given and will be required to work within Crossroads Derbyshire’s Policies and Procedures.

1Service Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Security and Welfare

  • To ensure the security of the premises at all times when on duty.
  • To operate and monitor CCTV equipment
  • To keep a record of all significant events during the period of duty.
  • To record and report any incidences involving the service users’ mental, physical, or emotional state to the appropriate staff member at handover.
  • To respond to challenging behaviour and manage confrontation as trained, and by alerting the appropriate emergency services if required.
  • To maintain good working relationships with service users.
  • To liaise with other agencies as necessary.
  • To respond to the fire alarms, as trained, if they activate during the period of duty.
  • To comply with the organisation’s policy and procedure regarding confidentiality
  • To monitor and manage access into the buildings ensuring that only service users and professionals carrying out their duties are allowed access.
  • Ensure adherence to Health and Safety regulations appropriate to the building and service.
  • To regularly monitor all communal areas, including office space, ensuring that they are kept clean and free of hazards including carrying out any immediate cleaning to ensure this and record appropriately.
  • To be alert to safeguarding issues for both vulnerable adults and children who are resident in the accommodation and report all incidents following HPWA Safeguarding Policy and Procedure.

Other Duties

  • To report repairs and maintenance issues.
  • To help prepare rooms for new residents as required.
  • Remove rubbish and refuse in communal areas.
  • Address any spillages in communal areas.
  • Communal areas to be kept clean.

2. General Responsibilities

  • Ensure handovers at the start and end of shift with operational staff
  • Attend team meetings when required.
  • Participate in supervision and an annual appraisal.
  • Attend training as required
  • To comply with the organisations procedures for reporting in and out of the workplace.
  • To work to HPWA Mission Statement, Values and Principals

3. Confidentiality:

The post holder will be expected at all times to respect the confidentiality of individual service users, whilst adhering to Child and Adult Protection policies and procedures and information sharing protocol. They will also be expected to keep the whereabouts of the accommodation service confidential.

You will ensure that information sharing without consent is carried out in

accordance with HPWA’s policies and recorded appropriately.

ESSENTIAL:

Knowledge/Skills

Awareness of the issues faced by vulnerable young women

A clear understanding of the safety issues faced by young women experiencing domestic abuse

Ability to manage the safety and security of the service user and the building

A clear understanding of safeguarding issues and reporting concerns

Good verbal and written communication skills with young people and external agencies

Good Record keeping skills

Ability to communicate verbally with daytime staff and provide comprehensive handover.

IT skills

Ability to identify record Health and Safety concerns and report repairs

Understanding of the need for confidentiality

Ability to deal appropriately with challenging behaviour
