POSITION: Sports Writer – Part Time
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This position under the supervision of the Director of Marketing Communications and in conjunction with the Public Relations Specialist is responsible for developing and administering the flow of sports news related to assigned sports programs for Chattahoochee Technical College.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Baccalaureate Degree required in a course of study related to the occupational field.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
SALARY/BENEFITS
- $15.00/Hour.
- No State benefits.

Sports Writer – Part Time
JOB SUMMARY
This position under the supervision of the Director of Marketing Communications and in conjunction with the Public Relations Specialist is responsible for developing and administering the flow of sports news related to assigned sports programs for Chattahoochee Technical College.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Prepares press releases for local newspapers, radio stations, wire services and TV stations, as well as hometown news media of student athletes; hometown news media of athletic staff and sports guests of the college; and state, national and international magazines.
- Responds to media requests for specific news articles, fax material, photography sessions, radio and TV interviews, TV segments and features for publications. Schedules and coordinates student athlete and coaches’ interviews for assigned sports
- Maintains all statistical information, historical data, photo and slip files for assigned sports programs
- Writes and edits feature articles for various internal publications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Knowledge of the student athletics rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of the rules and regulations of student recruitment and registration.
- Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include the State Board of Technical and Adult Education Policy and Procedures Manual, Chattahoochee Technical College policies and procedures, the Associated Press style guidelines, athletic league and conference rules, and applicable federal and state legislation, policy and guidelines. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of varied communication and writing duties. The need for accuracy contributes to the complexity of the position.
- The purpose of this position is to coordinate media coverage for college athletic programs. Success in this position contributes to a positive campus experience for students enrolled at the college.

- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee occasionally lifts light objects.
