MANAGEMENT TRAINEE - OPERATIONS

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in testing, repairing, producing, and repackaging compressed cylinders. Corrects unsafe practices or conditions without delay. Assigns job tasks to workers according to customer needs, current stock levels and workers’ expertise. Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, quality of product, and changes working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the work crew. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving problems. Trains new workers and cross-trains employees to continue production during personnel shortages, and maintains time and production records.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate and safely maintain generation plant for packaging gases into cylinders while ensuring compliance with all federal, state, local regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Schedule and direct safety meetings.
  • Coordinate testing and maintenance needs to production demands, working in conjunction with Production and Distribution managers.
  • Assign cylinder warehousing.
  • Maintain quality control and other required records (DOT, FDA, EPA, Airgas, etc.)
  • Assign training for all cylinder testers and cylinder maintenance personnel.
  • Capture testing and maintenance data using corporate approved spreadsheet.
  • Develop plans for an effective preventative maintenance program for all testing and maintenance equipment.
  • Develop tracking system for all cylinders received from and shipped to other locations.
  • Prepare budgets for staffing, equipment, and facility improvement needs.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work place.
  • Ensure all injuries and accidents are properly investigated and reported within 24 hours.
  • Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed and safety training is regularly scheduled, conducted and documented.
  • Provide coaching and corrective action promptly, to ensure that poor performers are identified, documented and improved to acceptable performance, or released.
  • Approve overtime when essential, while keeping overtime at acceptable levels.
  • Ensure employee complaints, safety concerns, grievances, etc., are effectively handled.
  • Supervises cylinder re-testing and certification.
  • Reports any equipment or facility defects to Operations Management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience is required. Degrees in Manufacturing, Industrial Distribution or Logistics is preferred.
  • Familiar with CGA publications; DOT, EPA, FDA, OSHA and other regulatory agencies associated with the compressed gas industry is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft Office suite of applications. Familiarity with Computers Unlimitedis desired.
  • Experience in production of industrial gases, flammable, non-flammable, medical, mixes, pure products and liquids is a plus.
  • Experience with cylinder maintenance, including experience in cylinder requalification is a plus.
  • Ability to read and comprehend Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) is a plus.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • Ability to perform work during prolonged standing up to 8 hours; frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion requirements.
  • The ability to operate a forklift; and maintain appropriate forklift certifications is desired.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varied temperatures ranging from 20°F to +105°F.
  • Must be able to wear required personnel protective equipment.
  • Must be able to train at an Airgas preferred location for up to one year before going to assigned location.
