2015 Team Rules

Clothing/ Preparedness

·  Shirts, shorts and hats that contain drugs, alcohol, tobacco or vulgarities are NOT permitted to be worn at practices or meets.

·  Cut off and sleeveless shirts must not be open below the normal seam where the sleeves had been or would be; we should not see any of a runner’s torso.

·  Shirts must be worn at all times; do not show mid-drift.

·  The RHS dress code, found in the student handbook, applies to all sports teams.

·  All Athletes Must Bring a Water Bottle to practice every day.

·  Always be prepared with extra clothing for a variety of weather conditions

Behavior

·  There will be NO profanity or foul language used at any time!

·  Cell phones and other media players are not permitted at practices.

·  Cell phones and other audio players are permitted on bus trips; if they are used to listen to music, they must be used with headphones.

·  When riding the bus, you are expected to ride home on that bus unless an athlete is signed out by a parent/guardian prior to leaving.

·  Team unity is very important to the overall success of the team; always remain positive.

·  Your best effort should be displayed at every practice or meet, anything less may result in suspension/removal from the team.

Procedural

·  An athlete earns a cross country varsity letter by finishing in the top five on our team in at least one third of all meets.

·  ALL practices/meets are mandatory. If you are going to miss any of them, please see one of the coaches in person well before the event.

·  Excessive tardiness or absenteeism equal to or more than 3 instances, or violations of the team rules or the Reynolds school code of conduct may result in meet suspension or expulsion from the team.

Road Safety

·  You must run facing traffic.

·  No more than two people may run side-by-side.

·  When a car approaches, you MUST form a single line.

·  If we cannot trust you to follow these rules out of our eyesight, then you will be dismissed from the team.

The Honor System

The honor system is used when you are running out of our eyesight. We trust that you are doing what you are supposed to do. Whatever the workout is, we expect you to complete it. If we cannot trust you out of our eyesight, then you will be dismissed from the team.

*In addition to the rules stated here, all activities tied to the Reynolds School District must follow the rules listed in the student handbook. Look to the student handbook for any additional questions about eligibility and for more detailed policies.

Accessing the Web Page

Making use of the district’s web-site, we have created a page for Cross Country. We will post our calendar, handbook, results from meets, and other important information there. To access our page, go to the High School’s site, click “Teacher Websites” on the left-hand column, select “Daniel Williams” and then select the “Cross Country” link on the right hand side.

You can also access the site by going directly to the URL below:

Boosters

Parents and guardians play an important role in supporting our cross country program when they volunteer their time as a member of the cross country boosters.

The boosters’ role is to raise funds through concession sales at home meets and through fundraisers. These funds are used for team activities, snacks, equipment, awards, senior gifts, and other needs not covered by the district or other donors. Boosters have considerable say in the way booster dollars are spent.

The boosters may also perform other volunteer duties to help run meets and support the team in a variety of ways.

If you are willing to join and help with the boosters, please contact the coaches.

Fundraisers

In addition to raising money through home-meet concession sales, we hold two fundraisers early in the season. Boosters play a large role in carrying out these sales. Unless something changes, we will sell mums from Morrison’s Greenhouse, and Strombolis.

Elementary Running Raiders Program

The Elementary Running Raiders program for 5th and 6th grade students is intended to encourage participants to get active and healthy through the sport of running. We hope also to get 5th and 6th graders excited to join the junior high cross country team when they move to seventh grade.

Reynolds students in the 5th and 6th grades are encouraged to participate in the elementary Running Raiders program. Participating students are invited to attend two high school cross country practices. They will also be given the opportunity to participate in races held after our three home high school meets as well as some invitationals throughout the season.

Participants who attend at least one practice and a total of three races will receive a free Running Raiders T-shirt.
