2016
To: All Sunday Ushers
Attached you will find Team Schedules.
Carefully check your teams working times. For summer, beginning Memorial Day weekend and ending Labor Day weekend, there WILL BE a 9:30 AM service only on Sundays. Weekly communion will be continuous – the only time communion will be served at the Altar rail will be on the first Sundays in January, April, July and October as well as Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. Special services (Christmas Eve, etc.) will be held as usual, and there will be a Christmas morning service only if Christmas falls on a Sunday.
Thank you for serving and remember that for many people, you will be their first contact with our congregation. How you respond to people may encourage or discourage them from returning. Watch the Trumpetfor any time or service changes.
WHEN SERVING COMMUNION IS CONTINUOUS
a.One usher directs congregation to the Altar
b.One usher to hand out glasses
Pulpit and lectern side simultaneously
Please note that the Usher Teams have lost a person or two here and there. That may result in the necessity to do the task differently. For example: One usher can stand in the center aisle and distribute cups to both sides, and one can stand in the center aisle dismissing both sides of pews forward. Also, receiving the offering with less than 4 ushers will require that the plates be passed through one side of pews then the other. Or recruit volunteers to assist as needed.
WHEN SERVING COMMUNION AT THE ALTAR RAIL-
Lectern Side:a. Usher 1 to close the gate then direct people to the rail
- Usher 2 to hand out glasses and remind people to go to the left, by the piano.
Pulpit Side:a. Usher 3 to set up the rail extension then direct people from the right side of the pew to the rail.
- Usher 4 to hand out glasses and remind people to go to the left, by pulpit.
Ask approximately 10 – 12 people to the communion rail from each side.
Split a pew if necessary, but not a family.
Try to keep the rail full, checking the other side if necessary.
Choir communes first, projectionist and sound commune when convenient.
Ushers commune last, reminding the communion servers of those who need to be communed in the pew. Remember to open the gate and remove the rail extension.
THE CAPTAINS SHOULD NOTIFY THEIR USHERS AND REMIND THEM OF THE SCHEDULE. IT IS THE CAPTAIN’S RESPONSIBILITY TO RECORD THE ATTENDANCE IN THE BOOK, TO SEE THAT THE BELL IS RUNG andthe Sunday teams are to collect all pew sign-in sheets including those in the choir loft.
Below you will see the newly configured usher teams. The schedule and dates follows the team configuration, including the special services.Again thank you for your willingness to serve – please direct your questions or concerns to Henry Burklo (419-636-0933) or Pastor Mary Beth (419-636-3387 or 419-799-0169)
