Five Keys to Living a Peaceful Life
Proverbs 3:1-8
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;2 For length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you.
3 Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. 4 So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.
8 It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.
Your heart is a key to living a peaceful life – v1-2
- We keep so much “hurt” and “pain” and “wrong” in our heart so that anger, resentment, envy, and discontentment keeps us from peace and contentment in our hearts
Set your heart to live God’s way– v1-2
- What do you set your heart on? --- a better home, or a newer car, or a boyfriend, or girlfriend, or a better job, or a happier home life, or a better marriage, or on marriage, or more money?
- What does it mean to set your heart on God’s commands?
Set your heart on kindness and truth– v3-4
- Did you know that having favor with others is one of the biggest blessings you can have?
Kindness is forgiving others, it is helping the hurting, and it is being patient with difficult people.
Truth is what Gods says
- To live peaceful lives you must live according to God’s truth and His lovingkindness
There are so many situations in life that are unfair, and not right. However, you must work things out God’s way.
Jesus says if you see someone do something wrong, you go to them in person. (Mat 18:15-17)
We transgress God’s truth when we reject “God’s way” of personal confrontation and do it “our way” through gossip. We actuallycommit one of the seven things God hates… spreading strife among brothers. (Proverbs 6:19)
God lists “gossip” with “murder” and “unloving” and “unmerciful” - it is destructive. (Romans 1:28-31)
To live peaceful lives we set our hearts on beingforgiving – and not become angry or unloving or unmerciful (Proverbs 19:11; 17:9)
- To experience a life of peace and joy, we must live according to God’s truth and kindness.
Trusting God is the most important key to living a peaceful life – v5-7
- To live a peaceful life I must trust God to work things out for the best when I do it His way
- No one will ever have a “wiser” way toward living a peaceful life. God made us. His instruction manual for life is your way to your greatest joy and peace!
