Objective of the job

To support the successful submission a second phase application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a project that will restore the habitats of Whixall Moss and engage the community.

Key results expected

To lead on consulting and engaging the local community to support the Project Development Officer in researching and compiling the Heritage Lottery Fund application to restore the habitats at Whixall Moss.

Key tasks

  • To consult the local community and other stakeholders to help develop the project plan
  • To run activities to engage people and improve their understanding of Whixall Moss
  • To liaise with and build on the existing community work undertaken by the Meres & Mosses LPS and Natural England
  • To feed data into and help write the plans required for the HLF submission

Core skills

There is no one background that will make you suitable for this post, but it is expected you will:

  • Be qualified to degree level in an appropriate subject
  • Have at least 2 years experience in a relevant field
  • Have experience of community engagement and consultation
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Be competent at managing budgets
  • Be competent with MS Office and other relevant IT
  • Have a full, clean driving licence

All the Trust’s work is helping to deliver aliving landscape – this is the name we give to our approach to restoring and reconnecting large areas of habitat to allow wildlife to adapt to climate change and other environmental challenges.

This post is developing our work in the Meres & Mosses, our premiere living landscape. It will develop and extend partner relationships in this area.

Terms of employment

Salary: / In the range £21000 to £24500pro rata per annum plus pension contribution (see below). Each post will be reviewed annually, following this review the manager or the member of staff may initiate a salary bid in recognition of high performance. Cost of living awards are normally awarded annually with effect from 1 April subject to the employer’s ability to pay.
Hours: / This is a 3 or 4 days per week (21 or 28 hours) post.The nature of the post’s duties may from time-to-time require evening and weekend work. Paid overtime is not available, but time off in lieu of hours worked will be given, if requested.
Probationary period: / All Shropshire Wildlife Trust appointments are subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary service in this case of three months.
Contract / This is a fixed term one year contract
Holidays: / A full-time member of staff has 20 working days per annum in addition to normal public holidays. An additional day is added for each year’s service up to a maximum total of 25 days holiday
Pension: / The employee will be eligible to join the Trust’s group personal pension scheme in line with the new pension regulations. Full details will be explained, but typically staff pay a minimum of 3% of salary the Trust contributes 7% of salary to this scheme.
Notice Period: / During your probationary period, the period of notice for termination of your employment will be one week on either side. After successful completion of your probationary period the minimum period of notice is four weeks on either side.
Place of Work: / The post will be based at the Trust’s headquarters in Shrewsbury
Home working / The officer may occasionally work from home at the discretion of the line manager
Travel: / Pool vehicles are available. In exceptional circumstances the use of your own vehicle may be necessary.You are required to have insurance to cover business use and a mileage allowance of 40p per mile will be payable for such journeys. If you use a pedal cycle you may claim a mileage allowance of 20p per mile.
Training: / The Trust is fully committed to personal development and training through its annual review and progress meetings.
