Suggested Program 1:

Walking with Eagles
Day 1

The first day is for getting to know the accommodation, learning centre and environment of Narmbool. The goal is to develop skills and safe procedures in the field that will be important in the students’ experience at Narmbool. A short walk along the Echidna Track and playing some introductory games will help students to relax, gain confidence in their environment and prepare for their program.

·  Health and Safety on the Farm and in the Bush

Day 2

Students begin their program on the Walking with Eagles track and explore the ways elements in the ecosystem are interrelated and how important those relationships are to the biodiversity of the property. Students walk in teams of ten along the marked walking tracks and stop for detailed examination of selected sites. Students start to make sense of the environment and to interpret their understandings, thoughts and findings in a creative way. On returning to the Lodge students will be supplied with tools and materials to create a response to their experiences in the field.

·  Organise backpacks, water bottles and comfortable hiking shoes and clothes.

·  Walk to Manna’s Outstation to start the Eagle Track (and have morning tea)

·  Walking with the Eagles trail

·  Lunch in the field

·  Return walk to Lodge for afternoon tea.

·  Creating Connections

·  Evening meal

Day 3

Students can consolidate their understanding of the interconnectedness of things in nature, some of the challenges of managing land in a sustainable way, and their own responses to the experience of being at Narmbool.

Day 1

Day 2

On day two students will explore the Narmbool property with lots of walking. Students will visit Manna’s Outstation and then conduct an investigation of the Seven Dams Conservation Area. On returning to the Lodge students will have time to get creative using modelling clay or creating puppets.

·  Walk to Seven Dams Conservation Area for lunch

·  Seven Dams Investigation

Students travel to Tea-Tree Gully Bush Camp and experience the surrounding bushland. The Tea Tree Gully Bush Camp provides shelter and a place to cook or warm up. Students will learn how to read the land and find the signs of what lives in the bush. The day in the bush culminates in students taking responsibility for themselves and their team-mates in the Great Bush Challenge.

Students walk a track which explores the relationship of Indigenous people have with country. Students play Indigenous games, learn how Indigenous people tell stories and history through their art, and . role play -aspects of the untold history of Colonisation/Invasion in Australia. . Students will gain a better understanding of the importance of land , for Australia’s Indigenous people and their culture.
