Time Schedule: 6:30 am – 2:00 pm

Salary Rate: Per negotiated agreement

Reports to: Building Principal, Food Service Supervisor

Deadline: Tuesday, April 9, 2013 @ 2:00 pm

JOB DESCRIPTION

This shall be the person responsible for the assistant cooks, meal service and overall operation of the building cafeteria.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be responsible for food preparation that is healthy, nutritious, and tasty
  • Be responsible for portion control and that appropriate serving sizes are used for each meal components.
  • Monitor food production and service to assure that planned menus are followed and any substitution complies with meal requirements
  • Assure that all food/meal preparation duties, serving and cleaning duties are performed until finished
  • Maintain sanitation standards set by the Health Department and ensure all food service staff are aware of these standards and they are followed
  • Operate Point of Sale System and Point of Sale Manager
  • Balance daily cash and sales
  • Complete and submit daily, monthly and annual reports
  • Be responsible for money taking, counting and recording
  • Record daily product deliveries and usage through production and inventory records
  • Provide training to cooks on the correct procedures of quality cookery, efficient serving, portion control, sanitation,maintenance of equipment and orderly housekeeping.
  • Teach assistant cooks the general operation of the kitchen, operation of the cash register, book work and other necessary daily routines
  • Be responsible for accurate time sheetsof all food service employees
  • Be neat and clean in appearance
  • Work in a cooperative and professional manner, creating a good working environment for students, staff, co-workers and public
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Building Principal/Food Service Supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) – proof required
  • Sex, race, color and creed shall not be factors in selection
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • A working knowledge of food preparation, equipment operation, serving, cleaning, portion control
  • Operate cash register and have computer software knowledge, accurate bookkeeping
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Active listening skills
  • Organizational and problem-solving skills

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in preparing refreshments/coffee for meeting, convocation, etc.
  • Prepare/determine menu choices when needed
  • Take daily deposit to bank and return deposit slip to Food Service office the following day in the mail courier’s absence
  • Oversee any student workers in the kitchen in regards to the students’ safety and work habits
  • Attend any meetings/in-services when required by the Food Service Supervisor
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of the kitchen for opening and closing of the school

  • Occasional interaction among unruly children
  • Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see (ability to see color), read, speak, reach, stretch with handsand arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop
  • Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles or dangerous chemicals
  • Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
  • Occasional requirement to travel, e.g., to deliver food and supplies
  • Occasional evening/weekend, summer work
  • Occasional requirement to work overtime
  • Occasional exposure to extreme heat and cold, e.g., ovens, walk-in freezer
  • Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., calculator, cash register, computer
