INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL AWARD APPLICATION

Deadlines: April 15th for summer and fall travel and November 15th for spring travel

Students admitted to the Global Health Studies Certificate program are eligible to apply for an international travel award. The award stipend can be used to reimburse allowable travel expenses up to $1,000. The award has the following criteria:

  • Applicants must be admitted GHSP Certificate students.
  • Travel must be related to student’s approved international experience.
  • At least 6 s.h. toward the GHSP Certificate must be completed by dates of travel (a minimum of 3 s.h. of which must be from GHSP core coursework).
  • Total financial aid or funding cannot exceed the cost of the international experience. Significant funding from other sources may result in the reduction or elimination of the International Travel Award.
  • Funding will be disbursed to students as expense reimbursement, not as an award. In order to receive reimbursement for expenses incurred abroad during the grant period, such as transportation, food, housing, etc., students will be required to submit a TEV within two weeks of return from travel to their departmental assistant.

  • UI International Health Insurance is required at a cost of $1.15/day. The University of Iowa mandates international health insurance for all UI students traveling abroad for educational purposes—studying abroad, interning, conducting research, performing a rotation, presenting at a conference, or any other educationally-related activity abroad. This “blanket” insurance coverage is provided through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). More information can be found on the following pages:
