Create a Postcard

Instructions: Pretend that you are part of a team that explored the New World. You may be from Spain, France, or England.

1.  Choose which country you want to represent: Spain, France, or England.

2.  Find the web organizer you created on European exploration.

3.  Draw a line down the center of your sheet.

4.  On the right side, write a note to someone who is still in your home country. You are sending them a postcard. In the postcard, include the following information, using your notes to help you write your sentences:

a.  The voyage

i. Describe reasons why the country wanted to explore.

ii.  What are your hopes for what you will find or do on this trip?

iii.  What are you feeling as you travel?

iv.  What is a hardship you’ve faced so far on the ship? (sickness, battles, lost at sea)

b. The New World

i. Describe the Natives you’ve seen.

ii.  Describe the Natives’ communities (use notes on Mississippians.)

iii.  Describe progress you’ve made (created a colony, destroyed other colonies, progress with relationships with Native Americans)

5.  One the left side, draw a picture that you feel is representative of either the voyage to the New World, what you see when you arrive at the New World, or the New World once your team has started developing a colony.
