Description: The first presentation will cover the latest revision of the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics, which contains significant changes that impact South Dakota professional counselors. This presentation will highlight new ethical imperatives in such areas as the use of social media, the imposition of counselor personal values, defining the moment ethical responsibilities begin, and fee splitting.The second presentation will expound on how these changes affect counselors in rural areas while also covering some important considerations for rural practice.

About the Speakers:
Cindy Goehring, B.S., M.S.Ed., LPC-MH, LSWA, NCC, QMHP, has over 16 years of experience in the human services field working directly with disadvantaged and at-risk children and families.
Duane Kavanaugh, LPC-MH, LSWA, NCC, QMHP, CCMHP, has 38 years of serving South Dakota in a variety of positions from correctional officer to counselor to counseling director. His dedication and hard work have been focused on reaching out to troubled youths, individuals with severe mental health issues, and rehabilitating sex offenders.
