Systematic updates of the current and future state of assessment, including work plans, posted to and accessible via the Internet and other publications.

June 1, 2006 – May 31, 2007

Year Three – Assessment process operational and enculturated.

Meeting Minutes

1.  Introduction of committee members and introduction of AQIP and its processes by Tom Huguley, AQIP coordinator, to the entire committee.

2.  Sue Merrell, team leader, reviewed the packet of materials distributed to each committee member including information about the three AQIP Action Projects, the Assessment Project Plan, the Annual Report to AQIP, Assessment website information, Collective Responsibility survey drafts, and CMT project plan.

3.  Sue Merrell reviewed the performance targets for the Assessment Project. She indicated that we need to estimate any funds we’ll need for the next fiscal year by December 1st and get that information to Tom Huguley.

4.  Discussion regarding current Assessment website: Sue Merrell and Teresa Prosser did an analysis of the current website over the summer and drafted ideas on how to organize an improved assessment website (handout presented to committee). Discussion about allowing people to enter the site based on what the person’s interest is (i.e. interested in learning more about assessment methodology? Click here.)

5.  Discussion about assessment versus evaluation and how this pertains to the project and in the classroom: Assessment is formative in nature; evaluation is summative. Both can occur at individual, aggregate, and institutional levels. The key to assessment is using the information to see how improvements can be made, individually and/or institutionally. The Cecilia Lopez’ Levels of Assessment were distributed to the Learning Liaisons. The work of the Assessment Action Project team is intended to help move the institution to a Level III on the Lopez’ Levels.

6.  Assessment surveys: Sue announced that IPR has prepared several assessment surveys to be distributed this fall, using Zoomerang where possible, to faculty, staff, and a representative sample of students. The goal is to see how well assessment is integrated into the culture at Sinclair.

7.  Lori Zakel reported on General Education measurable outcomes: The outcomes are built into the CMT and have been approved by key stakeholders on campus. In winter and spring quarters of 2005, her team will work on identifying measurement instruments.

Homework:

·  Joan Patten will compile a list of the Top 45 courses by division for the Learning Liaisons. See attached. At the next meeting we will discuss this.

·  Rebecca Butler will draft the minutes and email to Sue Merrell.

·  Sue Merrell will draft a task timeline for the project and distribute to team members. Will be distributed at the next meeting.

·  All team members will think about their core areas of interest as the project proceeds (to enable a “divide and conquer” approach).

·  All team members will review “Outcomes-Based Program Assessment” from Gloria Rogers.

·  All team members will consider the feasibility of a common rubric development for the core assessment tasks built into CMT.
