Regardless of whether you have any flu-like symptoms
Get registered with a doctor
Agree 2 buddies to help you should you become unwell. They should be willing to:
- keep in contact by phone or text whilst you are unwell
-do any shopping you may require
If you develop aflu-like illness
Check your symptoms online at if concerned, contact NHS Direct 0845 46 47 or the University Health Centre, Treforest 01443 482081or The Medical Centre, Caerleon 01633 432022.
During your illness
Stay out of contact with others as much as possible
Try to use any shared facilities at quiet times to minimise unnecessary contact
Wash your hands frequently
Keep your room window open as much as possible to ensure adequate ventilation
Let your University Faculty Advice Centre know you are unwell by Email (and telephone if you are going to miss an exam) : , , ,

Managing the illness
- Takingtwoparacetamol tablets every 4-6 hours can relieve the symptoms of flu, however you should always read the label and seek medical advice if you are unsure
- Drink plenty of fluids: 2-3 litres a day is recommended
- Rest as much as possible
Reduce the risk of spreading illness
- Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing,using a tissue
- Dispose of used tissues promptly and carefullyinto domestic waste
- Maintain good basic hygiene by washing yourhands frequently to reduce spread of the virus toother people
- Clean hard surfaces / door handles frequently using a normal cleaning product.
- Discourage visitors, but keep in touch with others by means ofphone, text or email
- Try to use shared facilities at quiet times to minimise contact with others.
