Future Talent supports musicians from any genre of music be it classical, folk or rock and on any instrument from violin to voice and drums to beat-boxing. We offer sustained support for all successful applicants and their families and provide valuable mentoring, career and general music development advice and bespoke performance opportunities, as well as a financial award.

1. Worsley and robinson bursaries and liz and terry bramall scholarship

Worsley Bursary / Available to musicians aged 5 to 15 years. As well as the support and opportunities above, you can apply for a financial award of up to £3,000 to be used over three years. In some cases, applicants may instead be offered a one year Robinson Bursary.
Robinson Bursary / Available to musicians aged 16 to 18 years. As well as the support and opportunities above, you can apply for a financial award of up to £1,000 for one year. Award recipients may re-apply each year until they turn 18.
Liz and Terry Bramall Scholarship / Available to musicians aged 5 to 18 years who permanently reside in Yorkshire or the North of England. Offering the same support and opportunities, this scholarship can continue until you turn 18 years and provides an annual award of up to £2,000. In some cases, applicants may instead be offered a Worsley or Robinson Bursary.

1.2 what we fund

We award funding for a variety of needs including:

·  Lessons

·  A contribution towards instrument purchase

·  Fees for membership to national or local training ensembles

·  Junior conservatoire fees

·  Residential training courses

·  Graded music exam fees

We will not support:

·  Travel and accommodation

·  The cost of tuition or other activity that has already taken place

·  The cost of any instrument that has already been purchased

·  Means-tested fees at music specialist schools

The Charity will only fund activities occurring after 01 April 2016.


1.3 eligibility

Worsley Bursary: Applicants must be aged between 5 years and 0 months and 15 years and 0 months on

01 September 2015 and resident in the UK.

Robinson Bursary: Applicants must be aged between 15 years and 1 month and 17 years and 0 months on

01 September 2015 and resident in the UK.

Liz and Terry Bramall Scholarship: Applicants must be aged between 5 years and 0 months and 17 years and 0 months on 01 September 2015. Applicants must permanently reside in Yorkshire or the North of England i.e.

Cheshire / Lancashire / North Yorkshire
Cumbria / Merseyside / South Yorkshire
Durham / North East Lincolnshire / Tyne and Wear
East Riding of Yorkshire / North Lincolnshire / West Yorkshire
Greater Manchester / Northumberland

2. coombs scholarship

Coombs Scholarship / Available to one musician aged 16 to 18 years. As well as the mentoring, development and performance opportunities, the Coombs Scholar will receive an award of £5,000.
The Scholarship will assist an exceptionally talented young musician in their transition between full-time education and the next stage of their musical development.

2.1 what we fund

Applicants for the Coombs Scholarship must consider specific needs which will enable them to continue their musical development towards a career in musical performance. For example, the purchase of an instrument suitable for conservatoire level or specialist music training in the UK or abroad.

The Charity will only fund activities occurring after 01 April 2016.

2.2 Eligibility

·  Applicants must be aged between 15 years and 1 month and 17 years and 0 months on 01 September 2015 and resident in the UK

·  You must apply and successfully audition for a 2016 Robinson Bursary or Liz and Terry Bramall Scholarship to be considered for the Coombs Scholarship

·  Applicants for the Coombs Scholarship will then be invited to a second and final audition

·  Applicants must include a “Case for Support” detailing how they propose to use the £5,000 award and demonstrate their dedication to their musical studies. See Page 4 of the application form

·  You must have achieved Grade 8 Distinction or play at an equivalent standard

·  For the successful applicant, the Coombs Scholarship replaces the Robinson Bursary or Liz and Terry Bramall Scholarship

·  It is expected that the successful Coombs Scholar will act as an Ambassador for the Charity

3. Application Process

Applications received after the deadline may not be considered. We are unable to return CDs or DVDs unless you provide a stamped self-addressed envelope.
3.2 / Recording
A solo recording is essential for your application to be considered. It can be accompanied or unaccompanied. A professional standard recording is not required however the recording constitutes 50% of the shortlisting process. Please carefully consider the location, sound quality and acoustics of your recording.
3.3 / References
References can be sent separately by post or email but must reach us by the application deadline of Monday 11 January 2016.

3.5 / All sections of the application form must be completed in full. Please do not include supplementary documentation, other than your tutor’s reference.
3.6 / The Grants Committee will shortlist based on the information solely provided in the application form and on the musical ability and potential of the applicant.
3.7 / Unsuccessful applicants will be notified by email once a decision is made.
3.8 / Shortlisted applicants will be notified by email in February and invited to attend an audition.
3.9 / All applicants’ details will be treated as confidential and will not be shared without permission.
3.10 / The decision of the Grants Committee is final.
3.11 / Future Talent welcomes applications from anywhere in the UK. Applicants must permanently reside in the UK.
3.12 / Grants will be awarded in line with the Government’s Music and Dance Scheme means testing policy. Most grants will be awarded to children whose gross family income is £29,340 before tax or less. However the Grants Committee may accept an application where the household income is higher if there are exceptional family circumstances.
3.13 / Previous recipients of a Future Talent bursary may reapply if they still meet the criteria above.

4. Notes for Successful Applicants

4.1 / Funding will be released on receipt of a signed Terms and Conditions form sent to all successful applicants.
4.2 / Future Talent will make payment to the service provider upon receipt of an invoice. Parent(s)/ Guardian(s) must approve all invoices before payment is made. It is the responsibility of the applicant and their family to ensure the correct invoices are sent to Future Talent for payment.
4.3 / Future Talent reserves the right to withdraw support without notice and to demand that monies already released to the individual be refunded to the Charity. Such reasons could include change of family circumstances or a lack of an individual’s musical progression.
4.4 / Any award amount unclaimed by the end of the bursary term will be forfeited and reallocated.
4.5 / Future Talent will expect successful applicants to participate in suitable publicity for the Charity on request.
4.6 / Personal data of the applicant and their family will be kept on our database for marketing purposes only, unless you ask us to remove it. The applicant’s name will be kept on file indefinitely.
4.7 / It is a requirement of any funding awarded that the successful applicant takes part in a regular monitoring and evaluation process. Short written updates from the successful applicant are to be provided twice a year. We welcome supplementary information with these updates – copies of exam certificates, press cuttings for concerts they have taken part in etc.
Further details on the monitoring and evaluation process will be provided when the grant is awarded. Funds may be withheld if reports are not received.

5. Notes for Unsuccessful Applicants

5.1 / All unsuccessful applicants’ personal data will be kept on file for a period of one year, after which it will be destroyed. Sensitive personal data and financial information included in an application will be destroyed as soon as the decision is made that the application has been unsuccessful. Applicants’ names (first and last) will be kept on file indefinitely.
5.2 / Unsuccessful applicants may reapply. Individuals who reapply should be aware that all information referring to a previous application will have been destroyed (with the exception of their name).
