Dear Soloist 2011:

We are pleased to announce our 7th annual season of “Gotta Move” Dance competitions

for performers ages 3-adult. This year’s competitions will be stage and gymnasium events.

  • March 18th...Gotta Move! at Syracuse High School – 665 S. 2000 W. Syracuse
  • Final postmark entry due date for this competition is Feb 4th, after which $10 late entry fees apply.
  • April 8th…Gotta Move! at Maple Mountain High School – 51 N. 2550 E. Spanish Fork
  • Final Postmark entry due date for this competition is Feb 25th, after which $10 late entry fees apply.
  • April 29th...Gotta Move! at Provo High School – 1125 N. University Ave. Provo
  • Final postmark entry due date for this competition is March 18th, after which late entry fees apply

Levels: Follow this guide to access your routine’s appropriate level.

Tumbling is welcome in your choreography. Please keep in mind that our judges are qualified to critique dance performances NOT gymnastics. All points awarded, or deducted, will be based on a well-balanced dance routine.

Please be careful that all performances are age appropriate. Our competition is designed for family viewing. Those routines not deemed age appropriate, (sexually suggestive) will be subject to a penalty of up to 5 points per judge(judge’s decision), or will be stopped or disqualified.

  • Any routine that the judges feel is NOT entered in the appropriate skill level (Nov, Beg, Int, Adv) will be judged and awarded in the appropriate skill level division (not the level originally entered in).
  • Novice: Very beginning dancers. Single Pirouette, Chaine turns, forward leaps.
  • Beginning: Single/Double Pirouette, Pique Turns, Side Leaps, Beginning dance moves
  • Intermediate: Polished Double/Triple Pirouettes, Fouettes sequences, Variety of turn and leap skills, Average/good technique & flexibility.
  • Advanced: Multiple/Directional Fouettes, Double pique turns, Specialty turns/leaps, advanced moves performed with good/excellent technique and flexibility

Categories : Solo/Duo/Trio:

4 Categories : * Jazz/Character,*Lyrical/Ballet, *ModernContemporary,*Funk/Hip Hop. Every contestant will receive a beautiful, unique trophy ranked from Queen-4th Attendant. Queens will also receive a crown. High Point soloist winners will be awarded in each level.

Age DivisionSoloists enter as the age they will be on the date of competition. Age categories may be divided or combined as needed, allowing no more than 5 contestants in each category.

Music

  • Music must be submitted on CD.
  • All music must be clearly labeled with dance title and your name.
  • Music must be edited to accommodate the routine/time limits. Requests for speed, fade in/outs will not be accommodated.
  • Music may be checked in Friday before the solo competition, but no later than 1 hour prior to scheduled performance time.
  • You must have a back-up CD readily available in the event of a malfunction of the original.
  • Pick up your music immediately following your performance.

Props Must be covered with felt or rubber on any surface that contacts the floor. If the floor is littered during a routine, the dancer must be prepared to clean it up immediately following the routine.

Judging The judging panel will consist of 7 or more official UDJA judging authorities.Each number will be evaluated by 3 of the judges for technical ability, choreography, performance delivery, and appearance. Judge’s decisions are final.

Competition Line Up A preliminary line up will be emailed 3 weeks prior to competition. If any line-up changes need to be made, they must be called in no later than 1week prior to competition.
