Purpose / To create and lead United Way’s efforts to achieve strategic, measurable community impact and systems change. Responsible for an effective system of community planning, resource investment and partner/community relations to deliver a dynamic response to changing community conditions. Plays a key role in positioning UWFC as a catalyst in Collective Impact ventures and is a visible presence in the community.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Lead development, implementation and evaluation of UWFC’s community impact strategy to maximize investments and in accordance with the organizational strategic plan.
  • Mobilize and engage the following stakeholders in sustained collaborative relationships to maximize UWFC impact and accomplish shared goals:
  • Funded partners
  • Other human service and non-profit agencies
  • WS/FC School District
  • Government agencies/departments
  • Other community funders
  • Healthcare providers
  • Faith-based institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Secure funding through grant development and other non-workplace resource development activities to extend community impact. Directs, writes and assists preparation of grant requests as needed.
  • Integrate research, quantitative goals, evaluation and data analysis into all aspects of Impact work to determine community needs, track progress, evaluate progress and hold all parties accountable for results. Understands how to interpret information and data to make good decisions.
  • Lead UWFC Product Development efforts to build community solutions that allow individuals and corporations to make a defined difference in the community through significant, multi-year gifts or endowments that extend the mission of UWFC. Understand UWFC resource strategy.
  • Lead, develop and delegate to team of professionals that includes Director - The Forsyth Promise; Director - Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness, Research and Data staff, Investment staff and Americorps VISTA members to achieve UWFC community impact goals. Seek learning and training opportunities to enhance staff development and learning.
  • Contribute as a member of the Senior Management Team to provide a united leadership presence across the organization to help instill new thinking, prioritize efforts and operationalize UWFC strategic plan. Strong collaborator across organization with all functional areas. Understand that each function is dependent on other areas or organization.
  • Provide leadership and expertise to the Community Investment Cabinet and subcommittees in partnership with the Community Investment Cabinet Chair.
  • Supports annual campaign and other fundraising by seeking stories of impact on a consistent basis and assisting with preparation of speakers for UWFC.
  • Provide leadership for Public Policy and advocacy issues and activities.
  • Lead special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree; Masters preferred
  • 7+ years of United Way, non-profit or equivalent experience in a leadership role. Familiarity with Forsyth County non-profit landscape strongly preferred.
  • Manage and monitor budgets, grant compliance, data analysis and other financial oversight.
  • Experience hiring, motivating and supervising staff
  • Experience in all aspects of grants: identifying opportunities, applications, management and reporting.
  • Experience developing and implementing community collaborations and working in partnership with other individuals and organizations.
  • Experience using qualitative and quantitative analysis as well as partnering with others on community based research and evaluation methods/tools.
  • Project management skills: ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate and create systems and processes, work independently, manage time effectively and follow through.
  • Ability to operate in an ambiguous and changing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office package (Outlook/Word/Excel/Powerpoint). Comfort with learning other electronic tools.
Valid NC drivers license, acceptable driving record and own transportation.
