LIVING OR LEAVING A LEGACY: WHICH ARE YOU?

2 Timothy 4:6-7

6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is a t hand. 7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

The reality is that every life leaves a legacy – that is not an option. The question is ‘What type of legacy do you want to leave?’ Would it make a difference if you learned you had very little time left? Would it change your priorities if you felt life slipping away? We are all running out of time. The opportunity to leave the legacy we want is one day shorter than it was yesterday. What did you do yesterday, what are you going to do today, and what are you planning on doing tomorrow to leave the legacy you would be proud about? What would you do differently if you only had 90 days to leave it?

Acts 17:24-28

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply the might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us: 28 For in Him, we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.

He has “appointed” us and called us to seek Him and find Him. Would someone say about your legacy that you did that every day? What steps or changes can we take in or lives today for someone to say about us that we were definitely appointed by the Lord?

When we realize that in Him we live and move, He should become the legacy that we live and the legacy that we leave.

Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children’s children.

I believe that this verse does not only reference a financial inheritance. The reality is that every life leaves a legacy – that is not an option. The question is “What type of legacy do you want to leave for your family?” The real truth is that we are working right now on the legacy that we are going to leave and the legacy that they will follow – good or bad. The legacy you leave will become the legacy they will live, and in turn will become the basis for the legacy they leave. Are you happy with your current legacy that they will follow? Why or why not?
