Highland Lakes Women’s Club Meeting

The final Highland Lakes Women’s Club Meeting of the 2010-2011 year was held on April 5, 2011 at Stone’s Throw Bar and Grill in Mt.Laurel.

Opening Remarks

The meeting was called to order by Fran Stainback, President at 7:04p.m. Members and Visitors were welcomed to the end of the year celebration.

Bellann Fitts presented John Archibald of the Birmingham News as our speaker for the evening.

Old Business

The minutes from the prior meeting, held on February 1, 2011, were approved.

New Business

  • Sunshine Committee - Lynette Clemmons provided an update on the Sunshine Committee which welcomes new residents, offers congratulatory notes for new babies, and sendscondolences for deaths, etc., as the committee is notified. A request was made that Women’s Club members notify Lynette Clemmons if they are aware of any news that the Sunshine Committee should acknowledge.

  • Hospitality Committee- Thanks was given to Pricilla Sullivan for her work as chair of the Hospitality Committee.
  • Charitable Contributions Committee- The Charitable Contributions Committee presented their recommendations for how best to distribute Highland Lakes Women’s Club funds in the amount of $1500.

The Lakeshore Foundation- Pat Megliola shared her findings on The Lakeshore Foundation, particularly the rehabilitation programs offered for disabled Veterans. For more information, please visit

ShelbyCounty DHR- Margie Sabino presented the option of making a donation to the Shelby County DHR. She specifically suggested the Adult Protective Services program which they offer.

Hope for Gabe- Teresa Dod suggested a donation be made to Hope for Gabe on behalf of the Women’s Club. The Griffins are residents of HighlandLakes and they are fighting to end Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy for their son Gabe. For more information about H4G and the Griffins journey please visit

As voted upon by the members of HLWC, it was decided that the available funds would be distributed equally between the 3 charities recommended by the Charitable Contributions Committee.

  • Officers for 2011-2012- A slate ballot was presented and voted upon by the Highland Lakes Women’s Club. The Officers for the 2011-2012 year will be as follows:

The first meeting of the 2011-2012 year is scheduled for October 4th at the Home of Fran Stainback, 663 Highland Lakes Cove.

List of Current Special Groups

  • Bible Study - Jill Glassco is the leader. For information about Women’s Bible Study, contact Jill at or 516-2113.
  • Book Club – Cathy Enders is the leader. The Book Club meets the third Tuesday of the month at various members’ homes. Meetings are held September to June. For more information or a list of the books to be read for the remainder of this year, contact Cathy at 408-7072 or .
  • Garden Club – President of the Garden Club is Kathy Banks. The Garden Club meets the fourth Tuesday of each month, September through May, at 7 p.m. Dues for Garden Club are $20 per year and help defray the cost of speakers/programs. Contact Kathy at 492-9825 or email for additional information.
  • Lunch Bunch – Margie Sabino is the leader. Lunch Bunch gets together the second Friday of the month at 11:45 a.m. to experience various eating establishments in our area. They alternate a venue close to home with venues in other areas around town. Sometimes after lunch, they take in a movie or they may have lunch at the museum downtown and then take in the exhibit. The only month that they don't get together is December. Call Margie at 981-2940 or email for more information.
  • Sassy “Senior”itas - Kathy Banks and Kathy Dotts are co-leaders. This group meets the second Tuesday of the month in members’ homes. Most, but not all, members are empty nesters.   • The Knitwits, etc. - Patti Eppolito is the leader. The group makes hats and blankets for Children’s Hospital and will be looking for new projects as well. Call or email Patti Eppolito at 995-5186 or for more information.
