Invitation to Prayer over Blessed Water

† Brothers and sisters,

let us implore the mercy of God, our Father.

May this rite of sprinkling revive in us the grace of baptism

through which we have been immersed

in the redeeming death of the Lord,

that we may rise with him to new life.

† Praise to you, almighty God and Father,

for you have created water to cleanse and to give life.

Cantor 2X:

† Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, the Father’s only Son,

for you offered yourself on the cross,

that in the blood and water flowing from your side

and through your death and resurrection

the Church might be born.

Cantor 2X:

† Praise to you, God the Holy Spirit,

for you anointed Christ in the waters of the Jordan

that we might all be baptized in you.

Cantor 2X:

† Father,

you have called us to this cleansing water,

that we may share in the faith of your Church

and have eternal life.

By the mystery of this consecrated water

lead us to a new and spiritual life.

Through Christ our Lord.

Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father,

you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us;

you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer;

you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ,

with the Holy Spirit,

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Collect

† Let us pray.

God of everlasting mercy,

who in the very recurrence of the paschal feast

kindle the faith of the people you have made your own,

increase, we pray, the grace you have bestowed,

that all may grasp and rightly understand

in what font they have been washed,

by whose Spirit they have been reborn,

by whose Blood they have been redeemed.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, for ever and ever. ‡ Amen.

OPTIONAL SPRINKLING AFTER THE HOMILY, IF NOT DONE EARLIER

Renewal of Baptismal Promises & Rite of Sprinkling

[The Priest addresses the faithful in these words:]

† Dear brothers and sisters,

through the Paschal Mystery

we have been buried with Christ in Baptism,

so that we may walk with him in newness of life.

And so, let us renew the promises of Holy Baptism,

by which we once renounced Satan and his works

and promised to serve God in the holy Catholic Church.

And so I ask you who have been baptized:

† Do you believe in God,

the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth?

‡ I do.

† Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered death and was buried,

rose again from the dead

and is seated at the right hand of the Father?

‡ I do.

† Do you believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy Catholic Church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and life everlasting?

‡ I do.

[and the Priest concludes:]

† And may almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who has given us new birth by water and the Holy Spirit

and bestowed on us forgiveness of our sins,

keep us by his grace, in Christ Jesus our Lord, for eternal life.
