RE: Review of NALA’s Making a Difference Award
********************************************
At the request of the NALA President, Kelly A. LaGrave, ACP, we did an overall review of NALA’s Making a Difference Award. (“MAD”) The committee felt that the MAD award should be continued since it is a member benefit. Here are our comments and suggested revisions.
1. NALA Headquarters would handle the nominations for MAD. The only qualification to receive the award is that one has to be a current member in good standing of NALA or of a NALA affiliated association. If one of those qualifications is met, the award is given.
2. Current board members, committee members, and chairs are ineligible to receive the award. The Committee suggests revising the award qualifications to permit current committee members, board members, and chairs to receive the award. **(this will not be possible if Headquarters doesn’t take over the award)
3. The Committee suggests giving a nice lapel pin and/or certificate along with the recognition in the Facts & Findings magazine and/or during annual convention.
4. Recognition of all MAD award winners from past year during annual convention. (I.e. announce list of all MAD award winners during annual meeting or luncheon and also list all MAD award winners in the award program)
5. The Committee suggests creating more exposure for the award with the goal of receiving more nominations. Some ideas for discussion include:
Posting the nomination form on the NALA website so that it could be completed online. (Interactive form)
Adding the award information and nomination form to the convention app… link, etc. so members can complete form during convention if they desire.
Sending the link to the nomination form to members in every NALA Newsletter, year round. The awards program is a member benefit.
Sending a separate email to NALA affiliate presidents and liaisons asking them to pass along to their members to solicit nominations.
Including a reference to the Award in NALA’s Affiliate Brief – every issue.
Including a reference to the Award in all/most F&F issues. Nominations are accepted all year long.
Creating a brochure/flyer to have on hand during annual convention providing information about NALA’s Award Program(s).
Possibly having a computer station set up during convention for members to submit a nomination on the spot.
