To create your Class in WebAssign:

Once you’ve logged in to WebAssign, you should see a Math 112 course that has Tina Deemer listed as Instructor with a list of people who have been granted access to the class.

From here, go to Tasks in the menu near the top, then choose Create Course. Be sure to fill out all of the required fields in the form that comes up.

If you are teaching one section of a Math 110/112

Give your course a name that is a clear identifier (you might include your name, so you can easily tell which class is the “Master” and which is yours) and specify the term. You can specify a section number in the next step (as shown below), so you do not have to include it in step 1.

If you are teaching more than one section of Math 110/112

You can specify how many sections you want to create in the Course Information section of the form. Keep in mind that you will tell WebAssign what your section numbers are in the next step (as shown below), so give your Course a generic name, like “Varecka Math 112”. You may want to use your name to clearly identify your sections. If you set up your sections this way, adjusting assignments in all of your sections is easy: just make the change in one section, and the change will automatically be made in the others at the same time.

For the Date Visible to Students, the first day of classes is best. If you make this date earlier, then the students will not get the full grace period. (Students get a 2-week “grace period” from the day the class is first visible before they have to purchase access.) For the Last Date Visible to Students, make sure you specify a date after students will no longer need access. (Note – you can come back and change this date later on, if you have an incomplete grade or some such thing).

Our 112 textbook is not available on WebAssign; all of the questions that have been coded are our own, so do not select a textbook. That section of the form should appear as follows:

In the Communication section, it is probably best to disable Private Messages, Ask Your Teacher and Extension Requests as shown below.

When you click Next, you’ll have an opportunity to make sure that you are listed as the instructor of your course. You can also give more specifics about your section and when it meets. Once you’ve completed the form, click Save. You will see a confirmation screen that will also ask how you want students to be placed on your roster. Having students self-enroll seems simplest. Once you click OK here, you will be given a Class Key for your class. Your students will need this Class Key to enroll in your class. If you need to look it up again later, you can click on Edit Section Settings to view it again.

Click OK again, and you should be taken to a ClassView for the class you just created (as shown below). Clicking on Home near the top left of the screen will take you to a view that shows all of your Current (and probably future) classes. If you find that you need to adjust some of the settings you chose when creating your course, select Edit Section Settings under your course.
