Elementary Summer Program Offerings

Have your children share their summer adventures with us! Cedar Crest Academy’s Elementary Summer Program for students entering first through fifth grade promises to be an enriching, fun-filled learning opportunity for campers to create, collaborate, and challenge themselves through a variety of camp offerings. Our well-balanced Summer Program offers a combination of engaging hands-on learning and skill building activities. Campers will explore weekly themes -- join us for all eight weeks, or just a few.

Each week will be comprised of a specific theme, combined with Invention Camp: Creating Innovative Thinkers and Design Challenges in July and Sports Camp in August. Details of weekly themes are outlined below. Coordinating field trips will take place to enhance our campers’ summer experience. Field trip transportation will be provided by Cedar Crest Academy. Campers will be required to bring a bag lunch on scheduled field trip days.

In July, we are partnering with MindAntix, a local leader bringing creativity to children. MindAntix will be hosting an Invention Camp for three hours each day, during the month of July, here at Cedar Crest Academy. Campers will become innovative thinkers while working through design challenges and will develop into creative geniuses through games and hands-on prototype building for weekly inventions.

In August, the goal for our weekly Sports Camp is to create an outdoor, active, all-inclusive, positive atmosphere that focuses on skill progression, teamwork, camaraderie, and friendly competition. Students will learn the basics of each sport through a variety of stimulating, fun activities, which will culminate in campers understanding the rules and playing a game by the end of each week. Our weekly programs are designed to give each child a positive introduction into sports while fostering a lifelong love for an active, healthy lifestyle. Throughout the month of August, campers will be physically active for three hours each day.

Exploring the Great Outdoors and Wellness

Campers, get ready to connect with nature through fun and engaging activities! During this week, campers will participate in a variety of activities that will allow them to explore the natural world around them. Campers will focus on wellness and begin each day with relaxation yoga, a nature walk, gardening, art, and creating healthy snacks to nourish their bodies. This camp will build on campers’ innate wonder and curiosity about the natural world and will be a gateway to self-discovery and learning through nature.

Invention Camp: Clothes that Work

Every year, fashion designers come out with new styles for clothes and accessories, but most of the time, they only change the aesthetic look. Wouldn’t it be cool if the clothes could also serve an additional purpose? Just like the Wristies, which were invented by Kathleen Gregory, to keep her arms warm in winter. This week’s focus will be all about designing our own apparel and accessories. Not only will they be stylish; they will also be functional!

Field Trip – Beach Exploration and Bellevue Botanical Gardens

Week 2: July 11 – July 15 $320.00

Mindstrom EV3 Robotics – An Introduction to Mindstorm EV3 Robotics

Campers will work collaboratively and cooperatively with others to solve challenges by building and programming machines and robots using the LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, campers will learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Student teams will complete several projects and mini challenges. No previous experience is required.

Invention Camp: Giving your Room a Makeover

During this week, campers will give their bedrooms a makeover. We don’t just mean rearranging things, but rather, redesigning things from their own room! For example, consider a bed that makes itself. In fact, Dean Kamen, who is a famous scientist, invented his automatic bed maker when he was just a young child! So why not take inspiration from him and get ready for a room makeover!

Field Trip – Woodland Park Zoo

Week 3: July 18 – July 22 $300.00

Cedar Crest Shark Tank, Jr. – Lemonade Stands

Calling all future entrepreneurs! Campers will create their very own mock lemonade stand to help (or aid!) them learn about business. Campers will take on the challenge of creating a great lemonade stand business while planning, decision making, setting up, and running your very own stand. Students will use their imaginations to create a mini business plan, prepare a budget, choose a name, advertise, produce, taste, and sell lemonade! Come join us for this fun, tasty week!

Invention Camp –Simplifying Chores

Campers, don’t you just love it when your parents ask you to take out the trash? We know chores can be a little painful at times, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could at least make some chores easier to do? Like Charlie, who invented an automatic dog washer so he could avoid the trouble and mess of giving his dog a bath? This week, campers will take a look at different chores to see if they can make them simpler and easier to do.

Field Trip – Theo’s Chocolate Factory

Week 4: July 25 – July 29 $330.00

Mad Science’s Super Science Sampler

During this week, Mad Science will really be shaking things up here at Cedar Crest Academy with their Super Science Sampler. Science comes in all shapes and sizes, and during this hands-on expedition campers will become an engineer and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids; assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, and simple machines; use chemistry to make their own sidewalk chalk and crystal gardens; and become an ornithologist and discover unique characteristics of birds. Join us for this action packed Super Science week!

Invention Camp – Reimagining School Supplies

It’s almost time for back-to-school shopping! Oh, the fun and excitement of picking out things for the new school year. Well…maybe not so much. It’s always the same old notebooks, markers, and crayons like the year before. Isn’t it time someone came out with some interesting, new school supplies? Just like Cassidy Goldstein, who invented a crayon holder to make it easier to draw with crayons? This week, campers will work on making new kinds of school supplies that students would LOVE to buy!

Sports Camp – Parachute Play and Soccer

Join us for an exciting two weeks of parachute play and soccer at Cedar Crest Academy. Parachute play is fun and can be used to encourage cooperative behavior among campers. Games and activities with the parachute provide all campers, regardless of physical skills and abilities, opportunities to participate successfully. When parachute play combines stretching movements, strength development exercises, non-locomotor skills, and rhythmic activities, a wide variety of physical and social parameters are addressed.
