Mona Shores Sailors Hockey Club

July Meeting Minutes

Attendees: 24 total including board members (Tiefenthal, Grevel, Hicks) ; remaining board members Mary Boyd and Kelli Meloche not in attendance. Coach Link could not attend due to a prior commitment.

The following notes summarize the agenda topics/discussions/actions taken:

  • Golf Outing – the golf outing netted over $15,000 for the team with only a few loose debts to collect. A very successful outing considering the economic times. A very big thank you to all who assisted and, especially, our sponsors.
  • Thank You Notes – Jeff Zaloga indicated he had sent them to his direct contributors. Jeff and Deb volunteered to send out thank you notes to all sponsors and contributors.
  • New Equipment – this year’s major expenditures regarding equipment are:
  • Helmets – Bauer 8000’s
  • Gloves – TPS with Sailor lettering (last year’s gloves that didn’t come in on time!)
  • Pants – 7 new pairs to replace older pairs that were in the worst shape
  • Jerseys – Looking to buy new home and away jerseys: Charlie deciding on type and style.

  • Summer Weight Lifting & Conditioning Skates
  • Paul indicated that the summer activities have been well attended
  • Jim Mylenek volunteering his time to collect/manage the skate collection fees which is greatly appreciated.
  • Extra monies from the skate are put towards this summer’s tournament fee
  • West Coast Shoot Out Tournament
  • Shores Game Times
  • Friday, August 1st @ 7:30 p.m. against Lakeland
  • Saturday, August 2nd @ 9:00 p.m. against Utica Eisenhower
  • Sunday, August 3rd : Dependent upon seeding
  • Paul indicated Coach was going to award those players who have been regularly attending the summer activities.
  • 2 Teams from Mona were discussed; however, the 16 team limit was already reached.
  • Coaching Note
  • Assistant Coach Bill Carlson will not be returning this year
  • Coach Link is still evaluating candidates and will wait to fill the spot
  • Troy Vanderstelt Donation
  • The board approved a $ 700 donation to the Troy Vanderstelt Memorial Fund for his 4 children.
  • Locker Room
  • Slated improvements are to improve the lighting in the room. Anyone with electrical expertise please step forward and talk to Paul or Bill to coordinate.
  • Sailor Football Game – August 28th
  • Justin Abdelkader Night
  • Justin will be honored at half-time
  • Paul able to get Justin’s # 89 jersey for retirement
  • Banner to be made for the evening and then for Lakeshore
  • Player Fees
  • Estimated player fee for next year will be around $2,200
  • Last year, due to several positive variances, a small refund was given to all team members.
  • Anyone associated with travel hockey should appreciate that this is a small number considering the quality of experience and the first class treatment this team gets.

  • We will need to qualify for the Showcase which is February 13 & 14
  • Alumni Game
  • Looking to make changes to format
  • May have a select team play with Chief players who are Mona bound.
  • Yearbook
  • Deb Hicks suggested a yearbook meeting in August to jumpstart the process
  • Paul agreed to set up after the new board meets in early August
