Introduction- Group question; Why pre-session checks?
what information do we need to seek from each individual participant prior to them exercising? (Spend time ensuring they understand what information they need to ascertain/ pre-session individual checks/ and then prepare for class, signs for stop) what challenges do we face seeking this information from stroke participants?
Set up: speed dating format in order to promote practise questioning skills with different people.
Arrange the group into 2 rows, facing each other.
Listen to questions from group, and then ask them to role play with the person opposite….
DEVELOPMENT:
After first role play – feedback what you heard, and then put in communication barrier for them to consider… on next role play participant can only answer yes or no – briefly mention the range of communication impairments that may present and how questioning needs to be clear, and more closed questions, consider visual cues for ‘yes/no’ some questions may need to be validated with another question, may need to speak with carer/partner to get the information you need.
Be clear exactly what you need to know before compiling your questions
Allow time to have many changes as they rotate around and face different people each time. After each question, feedback some good questions, address ineffective questions and add anecdotes as appropriate.
