A JOINT RESOLUTION naming the "Rodger Bingham Overpass" in Grant County.

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham was born July 5, 1947, the second son of Pierce L. and Francis E. Bingham; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham has lived in Crittenden his entire life, graduating from Grant County High School in 1965; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham was a fine high school athlete, who still holds the school record for rebounds in a game at 38 and was later inducted into the Grant County Basketball Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, having received a B.S. in Industrial Arts in 1969; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham married the former Patricia Spillman in 1968, embarking on a life's journey together that has lasted more than a quarter century; and

WHEREAS, Rodger and Patricia Bingham's "greatest accomplishment" occurred on August 31, 1971, with the birth of their daughter Angela, a young lady who remains to this day the apple of her father's eye; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham has had a varied and extremely successful career as a businessman, farmer, developer, and educator; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham, a lifelong member of Crittenden Christian Church, has served his church in a variety of positions and is an integral part of his church community; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham's sense of adventure led him to try out for the television show "Survivor" as one of 49,000 applicants; and

WHEREAS, Rodger Bingham was one of the sixteen contestants chosen to compete on the show, which is watched by millions of viewers across the country every Thursday night; and

WHEREAS, although the outcome of the "Survivor" challenge is not yet known to the public, Rodger Bingham has represented the Commonwealth admirably on the show, earning the respect and affection of his fellow "tribe members"; and

WHEREAS, regardless of the outcome of any television show, Rodger Bingham is to be honored and respected for a life well lived;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Transportation Cabinet is directed to name the overpass on Kentucky Route 491 over Interstate 75 near Crittenden the "Roger Bingham Overpass."

Section 2.The Transportation Cabinet shall erect signs identifying the "Roger Bingham Overpass" within thirty (30) days of the effective date of this Resolution at each end of the overpass specified in Section 1 of this Resolution.
