Depending upon size, scope and nature of disaster, establish command center (reference your agency’s disaster plan)
Decide whether it should be with overall command center, or agency specific
Initiate deployment of clinical staff (reference your agency’s disaster plan)
Manage Communications
Designate one spokesperson to represent the organization.
Identify what groups/individuals need what information in what order of priority. (Victims, staff, board, consumers, family members, community, other agencies, media, legislators, government agencies).
Develop key messages.
Contact media if appropriate.
Develop a contact log to record all telephone calls from the media or other parties inquiring about the crisis.
Monitor news coverage but alternate those assigned to monitor and limit extensive exposure to graphic news coverage.
