What Can I Do?

Sustainability Opportunities for Faculty and Staff

1.  Propose and Revise Courses and Programs (AC 1)

Sustainability Courses - the majority of the content focuses on the core principles of sustainability . . . and where at least 50% of the course contact and out-of-class time is spent on this sustainability content.

Courses that Include Sustainability - a portion of the content less than the majority focuses on the core principles of sustainability . . . and where at least 20% of the course contact and out-of-class time is spent on this sustainability content.

Sustainability Related Courses - a smaller portion of the content (less than sustainability-related courses) covers the topic of sustainability.

2.  Propose and Lead “Immersive Experiences” (AC 5)

An immersive experience is a sustainability-focused educational study program that is at least one week long, that takes place off-campus, overseas, or on-campus, and that meets at least one of the following criteria:

1.  It concentrates on sustainability, including its social, economic, and environmental dimensions

2.  It examines an issue or topic using sustainability as a lens.

3. Use the Campus as Living Laboratory (AC 8)

Institution is utilizing its infrastructure and operations for multidisciplinary student learning, applied research and/or practical work that advances sustainability on campus in at least one of the following areas:

●  Air & Climate

●  Buildings

●  Dining Services/Food

●  Energy

●  Grounds

●  Purchasing

●  Transportation

●  Waste

●  Water

●  Coordination, Planning & Governance

●  Diversity & Affordability

●  Health, Wellbeing & Work

●  Investment

●  Public Engagement

4.  Report Your Research and Teaching Efforts (AC 9)

If you are creating a new course, or if your department is considering curriculum revision related to sustainability, contact Josh Mabie or Wes Enterline if you have questions, need help, or would like to publicize the changes.

5.  Partner with Faculty Across Departments
