About the Role
Role Title: / Assistant National U17 Coach
Responsible to: / National Coach
Main Purpose of the Role: / To assist the National Under 17 Coach to Netball Europe 2016.
To assist the Scotland National Coach in implementing the Performance plan.
Main duties: / ·  Support the National U17 Coach in maximising the full potential of each and every athlete in the Scotland U17 Squad (establish effective working relationships).
·  Develop and deliver technical and tactical practice sessions within an Elite training environment as directed by the National U17 Coach
·  Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the rules and protocols of International netball
·  Have the ability to adapt sessions to address specific performance issues/needs.
·  Lead, motivate and influence players to achieve desired outcomes using coaching and mentoring skills.
·  Contribute to the development of the Performance Plan and associated Pathways, as required.
·  Develop an understanding of Performance analysis and associated tools, and how to provide feedback to players.
·  Assess the strengths and weaknesses of player’s performance, for development and competition selection.
·  Complete the player profile forms at the end of the season to ensure athlete tracking in conjunction with the National U17 Coach
·  Develop knowledge and understanding of Elite Athlete Support Services, i.e. nutrition, strength & conditioning, injury management, lifestyle management and sports science.
·  Take responsibility for personal development, developing coaching skills and ‘best practice’ coaching techniques.
·  Act as a role model, gain the respect and trust of players, coaches, etc.
·  Be responsible for cascading good practise and experience to the Pathways to Performance Coaching Group – ensure adequate notes are taken.
·  Demonstrate excellent communication skills, using different styles depending on the situation.
·  Demonstrate appropriate behaviours and work to high ethical standards.
·  Ensure that all athletes are aware of anti-doping regulations via the U17 Manager
·  Ensure all athletes are aware of drug testing procedures, and accompany athletes during the process in accordance with testing protocols via the U17 Manager
·  Understand and actively promote the Netball Scotland Child Protection policies and procedures to ensure all children are safe from harm in sport’
·  Be sympathetic to the needs and concerns of team members who may need extra support for whatever reason
·  Provide a safe environment for all team individuals, coaches and support personnel
·  Liaise with National and U21 Squad Coaches to share best practice and ensure consistent management approach
Estimated Time Commitment: / Attend Training sessions as detailed on the Performance calendar as well as the relevant tours and competitions within the season.
Other Information
Essential Qualifications / Skills / Knowledge required: / Member of the National Technical Team for at least one year
Knowledge and experience of coaching a National squad
Experience of working with club, pathway or performance athletes.
Attended Safeguarding and Protecting Children Workshop
Excellent communication and organization skills.
Pro-active with regard to problem solving.
Works well under pressure and has experience of managing people.
Sound knowledge of child protection policies
Sound knowledge of anti-doping regulations and procedures
Positive pleasant manner to liaise with external organisations/individuals
Understand the Importance of all participants being treated equally
Rate of pay/travel expenses: / Volunteer role – expenses will be paid to/from training, where no honorarium is available, (details to be agreed on appointment). Parking at airports is done so on own account.

Netball Scotland is registered with CRBS and staff or volunteers in regulated work with children must be members of the PVG Scheme.
